NBA star Russell Westbrook is investing in Oklahoma City, where he won an MVP and spent the first part of his career. Westbrook’s company is joining forces with Echo, a firm founded by Christian Kanady, to fund sports and entertainment in the city, including a soccer stadium. The partnership said the investment was eight figures, meaning at least $10 million, while declining to be more specific. “I spent a significant amount of time in Oklahoma City, so to me, that place is very special and is like a second home,” said Westbrook, a point guard for the Denver Nuggets now playing in his 17th NBA season. The funds will go toward building a 12,000-seat stadium for Oklahoma City Energy FC, a team in the United Soccer League in which Echo owns a majority stake. The club had to suspend play the past few seasons because it didn’t have an adequate home field. The investment firms also plan to put money into developing the stadium’s surrounding area, which spans more than 40 acres, into an entertainment district with dining, retail and community spaces. The site is in Oklahoma City’s downtown, near its convention center and NBA arena.

Last week, @russwest44 and the @whynotfoundation were proud to present @theepworthfoundation’s Daddy Bruce Randolph Feed-A-Family Thanksgiving event with a $20,000 donation. Each year, the Feed-A-Family meal giveaway aims to feed over 7,500 families in the Denver area. “We thank God for allowing Russell to be so generous” said Pastor Frank Jones, Executive Director of the Daddy Bruce Randolph Legacy Foundation. “And we are knowing that this is going to help feed a lot of people who otherwise might not get a chance to eat.” (📸: @tom.takes.pictures)

Honored to host the amazing students, parents and staff of @klinickids with @russwest44 in Brooklyn! As part of Russell’s continued mission to uplift the underserved, we wanted to invite Klinic Kids to Denver’s game in Brooklyn to recognize their efforts in being a catalyst for positive change through basketball and education. Klinic Kids is a carefully crafted program that provides professional training and mental health skills through sports and wellness, intentionally targeting the social-emotional, academic, and behavioral needs of young people. We can’t wait to do it again next year with this wonderful group!
