‘Dissociative Thoughts’ is out today!

Carlycore’s ‘Dissociative Thoughts’ EP is a sonic love letter centring raw emotion and identity exploration. The EP’s title reflects a fractured reality, navigating joy and alienation as a trans woman in Lima, while the erratic genre-bending mirrors Carlycore’s own dissociation and unfiltered self-expression.

Anchored by a fierce blend of Afro-peruvian rhythms , heavy perreo, and ambient transitions, ‘Dissociative Thoughts’ evokes the frenetic energy of “licuadora” music (blending machine music) of the Peruvian underground scene, where DJs switch through multiple genres and clashing rhythms within minutes. From the euphoric release of ‘Éxtasis en mi mente’  to existential reflections in ‘El tiempo pasa volando’, each track accelerates through percussive textures, blending reggaeton beats with industrial experimentation.  ‘Contacto 0’  embodies heartbreak and frustration, channeling unresolved tension into blistering, high-energy beats. Embracing a visceral, unpolished aesthetic, the EP serves as an intimate and unapologetic immersion into Carlycore’s fragmented but resilient world.

Carlycore is a producer and DJ based in Lima, Peru. Fusing hardcore techno, heavy club, huayno, reggaeton and deconstructed club, her sonic palette is defined by a heady exploration of the misunderstood dolls, our monsters from within and the weight of societal injustice. She has previously released music with Doña Valentina, AUX1, CAF? Ghetto Witchez, Hiedrah Club de Baile, and Salviatek y Terror Negro.

2 radio takeovers from @carlycore_ today 🖤

At 7pm UK, 2pm Peru, Carly will be hosting Scorpio Red’s @stegiradio slot, with a show “dedicated to the dolls, the odd ones, the sound wave, and the interesting ick that your body feels at the middle of the party when a strange noise plays, and you have no idea what’s happening.”

Then at 2:00am UK, 9pm Peru, lock in to @nts_radio for an hour of Carlycore’s own productions, unreleased gems, and exclusive cuts from Lima-based artists.

Extrañita - Carlycore

‘Extrañita’ is an exhilarating track from Carlycore’s highly anticipated EP, ‘Dissociative Thoughts,’ poised for release on November 22, 2024, through the vibrant collaboration of Doña Valentina and Scorpio Red. This track is a bold and passionate exploration of Carlycore’s self-image, masterfully capturing the extraordinary and unconventional facets of her identity. The theme pulses throughout the EP as she bravely navigates the turbulent emotions swirling within her mind. For Carlycore, embracing the ‘weird’ is a glorious affirmation; rather than a negative, it’s a shining trait to be celebrated, fiercely standing out against the stifling conservative norms of Lima.

‘Extrañita’ pulsates with intense energy, driven by a fierce rhythm that feels wild and unrestrained. The track incorporates elements of dembow but twists them through Carlycore’s distinctive vocals, which oscillate between discordance and allure. It exemplifies a kind of organized chaos, pushing against conventional boundaries and boldly exploring identity.
Carlycore explains, “The song is called Extrañita because I define myself as a weird person and so is this song. It’s very percussive, fast, feral and visceral. It’s weird but at the same time sexy”
As a producer and DJ based in Lima, Peru, Carlycore blends diverse sounds such as hardcore techno, heavy club, huayno, reggaeton, and deconstructed club. Her music often explores themes of misunderstood identities and societal injustice. Previously, she has collaborated with artists like Doña Valentina, AUX1, and Hiedrah Club de Baile.

‘Drum, Botany & The Brash’ EP by Forest Casual (@h.murd and @tm.erlin) is out today.

Hollywood birders Harry and Tom deliver four DJ unfriendly tracks aimed squarely at the parish hall. Sonic forage-ables and contemporary barndance to storm cruck frames across the Tunbridge Wells - Pontypool connection.

‘Drum, Botany & the Brash’ is the product of six months of outings and studio sessions by Forest Casual. These songs assemble nocturnal field recordings, barely metric rhythms, the May Day dawn chorus, wilted bouzouki and wood-pigeon wub. Two heads colliding to create a third, completely distinct from its makers. The resulting four tracks are dub infused soundsystem folk for the funglist massive, just don’t call it Folktronica. Entrenched in the music are many musical tangents explored in Harry’s basement, anecdotes of work and play on the ropes, and memories of jumping fences and squinting at woodpeckers.

🐦

Harry Murdoch makes music as hmurd and has released with TT Label, Gin & Platonic, All Centre and more. He co-runs the label Cherche Encore and is in the band Hard On Yarn Sourdonk Communion. Harry is chronically ill. He mostly makes music with code.

Thomas Morley is a free improviser currently exploring composition by experience and relationship. He is 1/2 of microband ‘mosspit’ and provides side-person duties for artists in need of pads and foley. Hailing from South Wales, Tom finds catharsis by abseiling on heritage buildings and playing 5-string banjo.
