I want to start by saying thank you to my mom for giving birth to me at 10:33 pm on March 10th 1998. I also want to thank everyone who helped make Ode’s first Friends of Ode Cookout a possibility, we are bonded for life and you all will be getting an invite to my wedding in 5-10 years. Finally thank you to everyone who came out and showed out! I saw two people fall in love on the deck that day and I wish them a life full of home-cooked meals, holding hands while napping, and a minimal but like a healthy amount of arguments. Some words I wrote the morning of my show a few weeks ago that I’d like to share: Today I’m filled with so much love for the people around me. MY community, REAL community. People that actually show up and care, and celebrate, and give flowers where flowers are meant to be given. I’m someone that shudders at the thought of asking for help and favours but this process has shown me that it’s okay to do so, it’s okay to depend on people sometimes. “In spite of fear”, my headliner piece for this show is the embodiment of everything I’ve been trying to do recently, literally do it all in spite of fear. It’s not just an art piece, or fun merch but really and truly it’s a lifestyle, and a mantra I’ve been using these past few months to push myself to do the things that scare me. Genuinely I’ve been emotional this entire week because (not to be dramatic LOL) 5 years ago around this time I literally thought my entire life was over, and I wouldn’t be here living laughing and loving with you guys. My life has changed in so many beautiful ways since that time and I’m so grateful to God for doing this all for me and giving me the “more” I had been searching for all these years. I’m also extremely grateful for everyone that has shown up and given me support with my journey as a human and as an artist. At the end of the day I’m just here to be happy and make art I enjoy with people that want to do same, I’m not one for games, or clout Olympics, I just enjoy creating art with all my heart. within the past few weeks I’ve worked with some of the most amazing people around me and these are people that are some of the coolest people I know.
