5 Years Ago Today … on the Mixtape Tour , my very own @stargirlrecords with BFF and Manager @heathermooreny released “Girls Night Out” ! 🪩 👠 The Pop version heard here was written by me and produced by @followseanthomas and would kick off this whole new musical era of “The Body Remembers” ! Wave your flag of being ageless, empowered, and… eternally ELECTRIC !!! 💙⚡️🎧 This song was written by teenaged me as an anthem to empower young people. To give a voice to equality and to fight against ageism and sexism as well in that my creative freedom was not handed to me with my record deal. Electric Youth became a movement of sorts. I cannot tell you how often I heard, especially from young people, “If you can do it, I can do it!” Well, here we are again. With society telling us the same thing but flipped to our adult years. Fashion magazines will try to put us out to pasture by saying you shouldn’t dress a certain way after a certain age. You’re supposed to suppress your hopes and dreams. Well.. once again, I’m here to say “If I can do it, you can do it!” I’m living my best and most vital chapter NOW .. and doing it on my terms. Independent of the big machine. It is harder. Boy do this hills get steep. Boy do the valleys get low. But, with your love and loyalty, I am doing it. My team and we as a community are doing it ! And people are watching us ALL and gaining inspiration. So let’s keep the party going with that same joyful rebellious spirit that took us to places that I thought were “Only In My Dreams”! I cannot tell you how much fun I’ve been having in this new chapter. I focused on my new music so hard and you all embraced it with a resounding collective voice that spoke to your courage and readiness to change and evolve with me and my music. Now that we are all living in this modern musical world, it’s time to marry the past and present to take us all into the future. Those nostalgic sense memories from simpler times can feed our souls as we face the current landscape of life in these chaotic times. But, let’s make adulting as joyful as possible and stay vital, vibrant, and curious.
