TL;DR we have two new perfumes! This time last year we launched our first two fragrances, and in short, you loved them. We already knew we did, but the reception and almost cult-like status they garnered gave us the permission we wanted to develop the range.Today we launch two new fragrances - Study of Nature’s Maths, and Book of Weird Poems. I love writing, but I dont think the world’s best penman could do a good job of transmitting how a perfume smells (and, what it feels like to wear), but I can say wholeheartedly that they smell incredible.Study of Nature’s Maths is a blend of unexpected elements, sun kissed hay (yes, we used actual hay extract) and calming lavender intertwine with earthy undertones, while the warmth of saffron attar anchors the blend, creating a scent that is both grounding and uplifting.Book of Weird Poems is a sensory journey that unfolds like a captivating novel. Coffee, sandalwood, and tobacco intertwine with a chorus of unexpected notes, creating a fragrance that is as intriguing as it is comforting. Both fragrances are available in 15ml, 50ml and 100ml sizes or can be bought together in The Rambler Set which comprises of a 2ml vial of both Study of Nature’s Maths and Book of Weird Poems.Photographer : Vivek Vadoliya @vivekvadSet Design : Laura Little @laulitSet Assist : Jessie Fernando @jessiemaenands

@crocs x @storymfg launches today, a shoe made for gardening, rambling, foraging and outdoor pastimes. A secret project for a little while now, the shoe is built with vegan, eco-friendly and biocircular materials with solvent free prints, continuing a shared goal of pushing the needle forward, while accepting that perfection is the enemy of progress - our “try your best” approach. The collaboration sees Story mfg.’s take on the Crocs Classic Clog. The result is a 1970’s inspired, easy comfy shoe made for being outdoors, featuring a floral print and chunky whip stitch. The shoot by @vivekvad spotlights activities in our world, wildflower gardening, food waste recycling and working with eco materials.CreditsPhotographer : Vivek Vadoliya @vivekvadSet Design : Laura Little @laulitShoot Coordination & Styling : Jessie Fernando @jessiemaenandsLocations : Forage & Fern @forage_fern, Hearts & Flowers @heartsandflowersbrightonModels : Peter Ferns @forage_fern, Toby Bradbeer-Davis @tobybradbeerdavis94, Ella Morris @ella_morris, Jessie Fernando @jessiemaenandsStyling Assistant : Emilie Risi @emilierisi
Two years ago we launched a new line (back then it was called ‘ROOTS’, now ‘R.T.S.’). Our goal was to create simple, beautiful, naturally dyed objects. The range of tones that nature provides, and the way they adapt, wear and fade is so unique. The collection laid bare the dyes and shone a light on the ways mother nature shows itself in imperfection.R.T.S. was an instant success and we thought it would be an easy thing to keep in stock - but it’s proved to be a huge challenge (sorry).Today (finally!) we have a new delivery of our favourite R.T.S. Greetings Shirts (in both long and short sleeves), as well as Short on Time Jackets and Daisy Dresses. For those of you who are new to R.T.S., the colour names reference the shade code system that the natural dyer’s use - for example CO-200A is my (@katy_storymfg) favourite purple made from a mix of natural fermented indigo and madder, and CO-44 is the bark brown that @saeed_storymfg would wear head-to-toe every day if I let him.Drone operator : @shuarmsModels : @frankie__dunn and @douda100

There are many ways to create effects on fabrics, but in the modern age you’ll find most surface patterns are printed on in some way - almost always industrially.Clamp dyeing with natural dyes is the kind of craft that breaks your brain a little when you first try to understand it. Its not printing at all, its not adding anything - its refusing entry to dyes in certain areas to leave incredible patterns (or, absolute rubbish if you get it even slightly wrong). It’s like a tie dye, or batik, or any ‘resist’ method, but uses just the pressure of the clamps. We’ve been using it for a long, long time, and it remains a favourite because of the almost etherial, ghost-ish effects it creates. The technique involves tightly folding and pressing down layers of fabric, before dyeing carefully. If you want more than two colours, you need to repeat it over, and over and over - getting each fold perfectly right. I would say it takes around 20 days or so to do the shirt in the photo, and those are 20 days of trust in the process and the ability of the entire team that makes it happen. When we’re designing a piece, and trying to go for a certain shape or colour, we’re always reminded by the dye house that we’ll only know if we were right once we’re done, because mixing dyes and dyeing this way doesnt follow the usual rules of colour theory. Blue and yellow may not make green, it may turn out sunburst and brown.Clamp dyeing with natural dyes is a journey through patience, high-craft and natures willingness to play fair, most of the time.

When we first released the Furrow Jumper we weren’t sure what people would make of it. It’s hand knit, and naturally dyed, but it’s quiet. It’s very much a “R.T.S.” piece, a garment where the natural dye does the talking. It’s an homage to old farming jumpers, made by hand. I can’t explain it, but it feels wholesome to wear. They were a really big hit for us, so the clicky-clacky sound of hand knitting has been constant as we’ve waited for more stock to come in. Now, they’re back, with a couple of extra colour ways and they’re really beautiful. What is Story mfg. R.T.S.?R.T.S. is a collection of items naturally and slowly dyed with fruits, roots, bark, leaves and microorganisms. It’s a pared down version of our mainline collection, exclusive to storymfg.com.For us, a simple item naturally dyed is one of the most beautiful things we can do. The range of tones that nature provides is so special. The way they adapt, wear and fade is unique.

Just a couple of the many many times we were told we were doing the wrong thing, the wrong way.

The process behind the hand-painted Greetings Shirts involves creating the garment first, followed by painting directly onto it. This approach is a nod to repair and artistry, things we cherish. BTS footage from @tharanginistudio
