THINKING THE UNTHINKABLE: DONATO PICCOLO’S ART OF THE INVISIBLE

@donato_piccolo ’s art investigates various natural and emotional phenomena, often using technological and mechanical tools to create his works. Through a thorough study of human cognitive faculties, Piccolo’s art analyzes the perceptive aspects of the natural world. His artwork investigates natural, physical, biological, and scientific phenomena that are the basis of life, employing their emotional aspect as a tool.

In order to induce such a peculiar resonance phenomenon, most of the artist’s works combine two complementary and inseparable aspects: they are at the same time sculptures and machines, forms and processes. According to Donato Piccolo, this hybrid character constitutes the actual nature of “holistic art”: an art whose essential function is to explore “the incomprehensible mystery of the visible world.”

In this interview by @variantino , Donato Piccolo explores the boundary between art, science, and the invisible, revealing how his work challenges the limits of human perception and opens new possibilities for expression. Through philosophy, technology, and artistic vision, Piccolo guides us through a world in constant transformation.

PEAKING THROUGH THE GARDEN’S BARS OF MARINA WOISKY - NOMADIC IMAGES BETWEEN ILLUSION AND REALITY

Opening on November 28 at L.U.P.O. Gallery in Milan, 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘴 is an exhibition by São Paulo-based artist @marinavoisky, where the concept transitions between a garden of sculptures and the interior of a room. On this occasion, @gaddoamunni spoke with her about her creative process, her connection to the images she works with, and the themes of transformation, materiality, and desire that shape her practice.

Born in 1996, Marina Voisky is an artist whose work relies on images of decorative objects and ornaments with organic forms as a substrate for her artistic production. Distorted, displaced, and compressed through successive material transpositions and the passage of time, these images undergo a transformation by the artist into extraordinary and chimerical animals and landscapes.

Her works fall in the liminal space between bi- and three-dimensionality. Through this, the artist addresses the representation, a fundamental issue in the arts, as well as notions of taste and the very status of the image in contemporary society.

LET’S ALL MEET UP IN THE YEAR 2000!
(Won’t it be strange when we’re all fully grown?)

Chloe Cherry, @perfect_angelgirl, is a fearless actress, model, and DJ who’s made waves transitioning from the adult film industry to Hollywood, captivating audiences with her breakout role as Faye on HBO’s Euphoria. Known for her edgy style, bold personality, and unique take on fame, Chloe is unafraid to tackle both unconventional roles and hot-button topics. Off the screen, she’s as vibrant and unpredictable as her character – a self-proclaimed fan of ’00s simplicity, obsessed with Howard Hughes’ eccentricity, and inspired by icons like Zendaya and Natalie Portman.

Chloe’s career reflects her diverse passions: from starring in cutting-edge films to spinning hyper-pop and indie tracks as a DJ. She’s a lover of supplements, memes, and all things A24, and could spend hours at the Silver Lake flea market or playing Gasolina on repeat. In her own words, she’s ‘just trying to have a blast,’ and her rebellious spirit and creative drive are helping her redefine what it means to stand out in Hollywood.

HEADS TOGETHER: THE ART BEHIND WEED & THE UNDERGROUND PRESS SYNDICATE

The art in Heads Together speaks to a time when pot was smoked with optimism — as something potentially good for society and people, capable of activating profound transformation in the face of corrupt and powerful forces.

Now, as pot fast-tracks toward full legalization in the U.S. and beyond, its once incendiary status is brought into relief. Pot’s profiteers in the corporate market today do not reflect those who fought for legalization, or the Black and Latino populations strategically criminalized in America for pot well before hippies were targeted, and long after.

The protest movement and counterculture of the sixties was fed by one of the greatest booms in publishing history. The Underground Press Syndicate (UPS) began as a loose confederation of five American papers in 1966, and within a few years swelled to over 500 across the world, reaching millions of readers. They “spread like weed,” said Tom Forcade, the UPS director, weed-dealer, and eventual founder of High Times. The metaphor was apt: the UPS spurred the legalization movement, and weed became its totem.

Weed was so pervasive it also became a helpful means for government agencies to crack down on the UPS — just bust into an editorial office and frisk the staff. These tactics meant activist groups adopted weed as an emblem of resistance. Weed would permeate UPS pages, with gaps in text crammed with weed-inspired “spot illustrations,” and it added a touch of flair to the mastheads of UPS titles. Heads Together collects these drawings, shining a light on lesser-known names in the stoner-art canon, and many who literally weren’t names at all, as no signature was attached to their illustration.

THE ETERNAL SPRING OF MAGICAL MYSTERY GARDEN

Magical Mystery Garden is a whimsical simulacrum of nature, a complex digital ecosystem that explores the relationship between plants and the digital realm. It questions and challenges our mundane perception and experience of the naturescape by communicating with psychedelia, semiotics, the folk and the cyber. It is a locus amoenus built of virtual moss and meta fungi, with connotations of Eden that evoke the wish of an eternal spring. It is a vehicle to explore the hybridization of botanics together with the impact of A.I. on gardening in metaphysical reality.

@ivana_basic is a Serbian (Yugoslavian-born) artist based in New York. Through the use of glass, metal, and wax she proposes a new representation of the human-non-human figure in a post-anthropocentric perspective, questioning our views about the fragility of flesh during a transitional state, proposing a research for an Ulterior as an alternative to the tragedy of the human condition.

@abrax.asss is an Italian digital-collagist currently based in Milan and he mediated for us with Ivana Bašić in an effort to dissect some themes at the core of her artistic production, such as spirituality, disembodiment, and technology, helping us understand how we can approach them trough trans-humanistic perspective.

In a world fractured by inequality, HG/LF stands as a bastion of dissent, championing a vision that transcends fashion to embrace a cultural and spiritual revolution.

This photograph, captured one afternoon in Rome by the revolutionary photographer and artist @benassijacopo , pays homage to a cover of 1977 from Re Nudo, which was Italy’s leading countercultural magazine.
In this work , we have chosen to feature Giorgio Quarzo Guarascio, better known as @tutti.fenomeni , one of the few figures in Italy worthy of the title of singer-songwriter.

Because Giorgio Quarzo Guarascio is a poet with a microphone in hand, STXDYOZ has invited him to write a poem for TIME issue no.03
