Whooop - new release! Out now via @steffi_dolly_klakson‘s & @virginia_live‘s fantastic @candymountaincandy! You can grab 'Seul‘ now on Bandcamp (link in bio), the full 6-track EP will be out June 21st! When someone like Steffi knocks on your door and tells you that she would love to release some of your music, you have to come up with something even if it means to get a bit out of your comfort zone. This new EP is the result of a two year long process and i quite like what came out of it. Hope you are into it too. Much love to Steffi, Virginia and @rosalie_demeyer for making it happen. Today is the release of my new album called Joyful Discontent. Link in my bio. It’s out as a limited cassette and digital on Guides, the sub-label of the fantastic @outlineslabel. It means a lot to join their catalogue next to artists like @jana_rush, @poemproducer, @djfulltono, @automatisme_williamjourdain or @skipcluborchest. Its a bit more experimental, conceptual and minimal than my usual output. Curious what you all think about it. Big thanks to Pawel for the longstanding interest in my music and the support and feedback while creating this album, to @axeofbass for lifting the frequencies with his mastering, to @mm_sieczkowska for the beautiful artwork and to @roseannegush for the continuous encouragement to go deeper in my artistic practise. It’s time for another @subfmradio show this Thursday! Its episode #202, I have lots of new music in my folders and an amazing guest. Super happy that DJ, scholar, teacher & activist Larisa Mann aka @djripley is joining the show!

Rooted in jungle, breakcore, dancehall and dub, DJ Ripley weaves together bass sounds from cities all over the world, where immigrants and exiles bring their sounds from home and mix them with electronic beats. Her goal: to transform dancefloors into spaces for subversive pleasure, celebrating shared histories and their conscious dialogue, using music to challenge hierarchies: borders, genres, dominant definitions of gender and sexuality: to make systems quake and feel good doing it. She’s opened minds and lit up dancefloors across 25 countries on three continents. Nurtured in Boston’s Toneburst Collective in the 90s, she cofounded Surya Dub (SF) in 2006, joined @duttyartz (NYC) in 2011, and in 2015 cofounded the groundbreaking @heavysoundsnyc series with @annamorgandj . More recently, she cofounded @subversionphl with Philly-based dj/producers Cristiña and @djsideswipe. As a scholar, she’s also written a book on Jamaican soundsystem culture, copyright law and anticolonial resistance, called Rude Citizenship.
