😍 We’re excited to show you our latest artist commission! This month, artist Theresa Weber (@therrytail) has crafted a stunning mixed-media collage in response to Alvaro Barrington’s GRACE at Tate Britain. The result? This stunning piece that combines painting, nails and photographs all together! ✨ Check out Theresa’s thoughts below👇 ‘In reaction to Alvaro Barrington´s Tate commission GRACE, I decided to develop a sculptural painting with the title ´We come from Beauty´, that emphasizes on the empowerment through Caribbean Carnival celebrations, as well as the impact and legacy of Black women. A detailed composition platforms pictures with women of my family, in combination with images that I took at Notting Hill Carnival. The mosaic pattern includes jewelry elements such as acrylic nails and beads, that become intersectional body traces and represent the costume. My painterly composition is inspired by the shapes of the island landscape, the double helix, and the root network. This symbolically connects diasporic lives, that despite their dislocations are connected through shared ancestry and bear cultural traces in their collective memory. A black background stands for cosmology, spirituality and infinity in the universe.
