While I stand firmly against owning assault rifles and all forms of violence, I can’t help but ask: aren’t the CEOs of our health insurance companies complicit in a different kind of murder, a systemic, ongoing harm that has cost countless Americans their lives? How does one amass billions as a healthcare executive while denying coverage to those in need and burdening hardworking individuals with exorbitant premiums that consume a significant share of their income? Countless American citizens have been killed due to their policies such as deny, defend, and depose. Luigi Mangione is not a hero, but his actions have highlighted a growing frustration with healthcare corporate greed that millions of Americans share. Luigi sent a message on behalf of us. Will those that need to hear it listen, or will they spend our healthcare dollars on increased security for billionaire health executives and raise our premiums to cover the cost?
