A CUP OF COFFEE AND NEW SHOES ON, based on a true story, is coming out in theaters in Portugal this Thursday October 31st.
Playing Gezim was an extremely challenging experience. Gezim, who is deaf, faces the reality of not only losing his sight, but also the two people he loves the most, his girlfriend Ana and his brother Agim. The journey of working on this film included almost a year of prep, learning Albanian sign language, and an intense rehearsal period and shoot during a sweltering summer in Tirana. The process was as arduous as it was rewarding. I hope this film will be a fulfilling emotional experience for those of you who will see it. This film is truly special to me in so many ways that I can’t even put into words. I highly recommend seeing it in a theater, where this movie in particular is best viewed.
It was Albania’s official submission to the Oscars (
@theacademy), had its world premiere in competition at PÖFF (
@tallinnblacknightsff), won the Audience Award at Thessaloniki (
@filmfestivalgr), the Cinelink Award at Sarajevo (
@sarajevofilmfestival), the Best Director Prize at Bergamo (
@bergamofilmmeeting) and the Film Critics Award as well as the Golden Sun award for Best Film at Cinedays.
I was honored to win the Best Actor award (ex-aequo with
@itsrafaelmorais), at Prishtina International Film Festival (
@prifest) for this film.
