We’re 25! 🥂 In 1999, The Standard opened its doors on Sunset Boulevard. Cheers to all the sleepovers, spa days and A-list parties since—on three continents and counting. As we look forward to the next 25, join us for a look back at some of our favorite moments. Follow along for even more silver celebrations.

The Standard Archive #1: The Box at The Standard, Hollywood (1999). This glass enclosure behind the front desk showcased models simply…existing. Popularly known as “Box Girls” (though they were all genders), they read, slept, watched TV and surfed the net in tank tops and boy shorts. The Box toyed with exhibitionism and voyeurism in La La Land, a living work of performance art. And it got people talking. “Hollywood can make you feel so ugly because there are so many beautiful women here. But in The Box, I feel so pretty,” model Alice Rogers remembered. Lilibet Snellings (who wrote Box Girl: My Part Time Job as an Art Installation) recalled, “I loved the fact that I got to be both the observed and the observer.” Poet Jacqueline Suskin wrote an entire book inside The Box and reggae legend Roger Steffens displayed his transportive archival works. Created in 1999 by designer Shawn Hausman.

The Standard Archive #22: Chanel No. 5 in the Snow. In December of 2019, Chanel took over The Standard, High Line to create an immersive après-ski mecca at our seasonal outdoor ice-skating rink. The Standard Plaza was decked out like a chic ski chalet with twinkling trees, sleighs and plenty of of photo ops. Campaign star Lily Rose Depp, Kacey Musgraves, Diane Kruger and more flocked to the official launch, with a special performance by K-Pop band Monsta X.

There’s only one place where sun, skin, and sin come together and that’s The Standard Spa, Miami Beach’s pool deck. In honor of the brand’s 25th anniversary, we teamed up with LoHi Magazine to celebrate Biscayne Bay’s icon with a diorama capturing the eccentric ~je ne sais quoi~ and familiar faces (see who you can spot!). The Standard Archive #21: Giorgio’s at The Standard, Hollywood. Filled with mirrored disco balls and sequin-clad club goers, the adult playground was known for its VIP clientele and elusive charm. Founded by entrepreneur Bryan Rabin and named for the Italian music legend Giorgio Moroder, the club embodied the sultry, cinematic vibe of the ’70s and ’80s. With no street entrance, guests had to navigate through the hotel kitchen to enter the dark-mirrored, smoke-filled room, which fit around 100 people. The strict no-camera, no-bodyguard policy created an ultra-intimate atmosphere and attracted a glittering mix of icons—from GRAMMY winners and fashion designers to creative directors. This combination of exclusivity, mystery and fantasy made Giorgio’s a legendary hotspot—where even Mick Jagger shrugged off a lack of table space to say, “Darling, I’m here to dance.”
