This little guy was awesome! Working With Stept Studios and D.P. Cam Riley we built a rad fall rig for the Varsity Directors Ben and John. We had to make it safe enough to drop this little guy. It worked out really well. This was a sick spinning camera rig I had the pleasure of creating for D.P. Chuk Owens @chuk.town and Director Phillip R Lopez @el_mustachios The ask was a vertical 180deg spin through the set. It would be cut together with other looping shots to create a 360 degree spinning shot through multiple sets. The rig had to be height adjustable and mobile to move between sets. You can see a little of the process from quick sketches made by Finn @three60s the Production designer, then from me to explain what I see in my head to Chuk, basically chicken scratch on a napkin . On to a Previs from SFX from Gosia @gosiaherman with dimension for the build and a video view in 3d space of what the shot should look like. Once the rig was complete it was so well balanced that one little push would make it spin for quite a few minutes. After hooking up the rope and pully system I had precise control over the speed with little effort through the whole shot. I was able to control and very the speed on the fly through the shot as requested by the director in real time. I love working with people who design creative shots that test my skill set, so much fun! Thanks Chuk!! In this BTS we are rocking a Cranium fixed arm crane with stabilized head 4 stories up on a roof. We have a car rigged on a champion crane that we release and let fall 3 floors to the ground. Fun stuff on 911 Lonestar. #craniumcranes #lonestar911

I love being a crane tech for Cranium and getting the opportunity to work on huge sets like this one on "For All Mankind". That's our 45' Movie Bird half sick to give you an idea of the scale of their sets.
