@MiuMiu is on a winning streak, and that includes our second annual Vogue Runway Industry Poll. We asked our industry colleagues to help us summarize the year in fashion by submitting an anonymous questionnaire. Lotta Volkova was named the year’s best stylist for the second year in a row for her work with Miu Miu, while the label came out on top as the year’s most covetable brand. Are you surprised? Helmut Lang has long been credited as the first designer to show a collection on the internet, but Lee Alexander McQueen was the first one to break it. Titled Plato’s Atlantis, McQueen’s spring 2010 collection is famous for three things: First, it was his last presented while he was alive. Second, this is the show where the extraterrestrial Armadillo boots Lady Gaga wears in her “Bad Romance” music video debuted. And third, it was the first show to be streamed live on Nick Knight’s Show Studio platform—the hook being that Gaga would release “Bad Romance,” the song, during the show. “There’s a sort of intellectual kinkiness, which I quite like,” says Seán McGirr of Alexander McQueen, the house he took over just a year ago. “It’s not overtly sexy at all—and I think that’s really modern.” At the link in bio, read as McGirr tells Vogue how he’s taking on the McQueen heritage.

“For me, McQueen is about London—there’s an attitude in the city that’s very visceral, but very refined at the same time,” Seán McGirr, the label’s creative director, tells Vogue in an interview now a year into his tenure. Alexander McQueen’s legacy is a complex one to manage—at the link in bio, McGirr unpacks its impact and tells Vogue how he’s making it his own.

We asked some of our industry colleagues to help us summarize the year in fashion with our second annual anonymous poll. From Designer and Model of the Year to the Year's Most Covetable brand, fashion folk picked the moments and people that stood out the most to them in 2024. Unsurprisingly, John Galliano's spring 2024 @MaisonMargiela Artisanal collection won for both Favorite Collection of the Year and is the show most of our constituency would have liked to see in person. What was your favorite collection of 2024? Find the results of every category at the link in bio.

Picture it: It’s 2007 and you switch on the TV. You tune into E! and find one Kimberly Kardashian in a new reality TV show about her family, aptly titled “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” You switch to AMC and find a broody but utterly sexy antihero in Jon Hamm’s Don Draper, who is chain smoking Lucky Strikes in a three-piece suit at his fictional Madison Avenue advertising agency, as in “Mad Men.” As the latest episode wraps—because why would you ever turn off Mad Men?—you move to The CW to see if the teen drama “Gossip Girl,” promoted as “every parent’s nightmare,” lives up to the marketing hype. What a time to be alive, no? 2007 was the year TV took over fashion, read more and explore our Vogue Runway time machine at the link in bio.

We decided to turn our group chats into reality with a fashion poll for the second year in a row. Rather than keeping our behind-the-scenes superlatives to ourselves, we asked fellow industry folk to vote on the year in fashion in an anonymous poll. The results are in, and @Chemena Kamali’s fall 2024 collection for @Chloé was voted as the best debut of the year, while @AlexConsani took the crown for Model of the Year. It’s impossible to look back at the past decade or so in fashion without considering the impact of Lady Gaga as a performer and clothes obsessive. Stefani Germanotta came out swinging with “Poker Face,” “Just Dance,” and “Paparazzi”—a trilogy of singles that announced her arrival—but it was “Bad Romance” and its accompanying video that cemented Gaga as a budding fashion icon. The results are in! Our second annual Vogue Runway Industry Poll is here. Just like last year, we decided to round up the year by reaching out to over 300 industry folk—fellow editors, stylists, photographers, designers, models, and content creators—to fill out an anonymous poll. The Vogue Runway constituency has, in an entirely unsurprising turn of events, named @Jonathan.Anderson the designer of the year for the second time in a row. Rachel Scott of @diotima.world has been crowned Emerging Designer of the Year, and @sacaiofficial’s Chitose Abe, @_MaximilianDavis_ of @Ferragamo, and Ryota Iwai of @auralee_tokyo have tied for Most Underrated Designer of Today. By the time Victoria Beckham launched her label for spring 2009, we were already used to celebrity brands. Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani had given us Sweetface and L.A.M.B., respectively, but where Beckham’s boldface predecessors focused on the flash of runway shows and clothes for the shopping masses, the former Spice Girl turned her perfectionist streak to high fashion, launching with a carefully considered collection of 15 hourglassy dresses. “This has been a lifetime in the making,” she told Nicole Phelps then. “I don’t want to make dresses that will date. I’ve always been about clever buying.” Read more and explore our Vogue Runway time machine at the link in bio.

When @JourdanDunn stepped on the @Prada fall 2008 runway, she would become the first Black model in over a decade to do so, the last having been Naomi Campbell. Dunn was the only one at that show, and, as it happens, on many other runways that season. Together with Chanel Iman, who debuted around the same time and with whom she shared a Teen Vogue cover in 2009, Dunn was the beginning of a new dawn on the runways.
