I moved to NYC Valentine’s Day 2014. I remember my beautifully depressing layover at the empty but appropriately decorated Las Vegas Airport where I played a few slot machines and didn’t think very hard about what I was doing. When I got to New York I thought doc martens were suitable snow shoes and I got a really big stupid coat from the Salvation Army. My first job in the city was grip truck driving on a feature for ~12 bucks an hour and I remember thinking I’d have to quit cigarettes soon because even though I felt so rich they were too expensive here. 10 years later and it feels like I sold my carefree and youthful soul to this city in exchange for mental anguish and hard truths, but New York feels less like an abusive spouse and more like an old delusional great aunt who plans to leave you everything but says really mean things sometimes and just won’t die. 📸 by the realest @m_ttclegg
