Once upon a time in SoHo New York, Kenny Garrett
@kennygarrettofficial invited me to paint on stage in Japan Tokyo Blue Note in 1997. I had never been to Japan, however very keen on the concept of Bushido , the culture and its artisans. I had seen Kenny in many videos playing along side the great Miles Davis, of course I was thrilled to go create anything with this guy!!. So, I’d find myself in Omanto Sando, Tokyo Blue note on stage with these amazing, out of this world musicians… Nat Reeves BASS

@jefftainwatts and the late great Kenny Kirkland on piano #kennykirkland . I was so nervous and my mind was a blank, as I began swinging ink all over this canvas on stage in this very foreign land. Kenny and his band pushed me to a new found way to approach my painting…. I will forever more start each painting using Japanese’s sumi ink or this newfound
@buaisou_i indigo ink (Blue)and more recently this aka-ne ink (red) harvested and produced in Fukuoka ! Now more than 25 years later I’m invited to share with the people of Kyushu,Fukuoka and all of Japan, this way of creating paintings that I wish you to not only see, but hear as well!! Artist must find their own voices … this happenstance reminds me of when Jackson’s Pollock spilled his paint and then began his drip paintings. It’s time to create. The time is now.
