Food is medicine - Okinawan Phrase that needs to be revived into a reality in our daily lives, aka we need to start using food, herbs, and spices to heal us. People are digging themselves into an early grave with their knife and fork. It does not need to be that way...*note: chi is Chinese, Ki is 気 in Japanese #okinawa #kusuimun #nuchigusui #healingwithfood #yakuzen #spiceoflife

Why #japan #mentalhealth is declining.... #longevity #interview #doctor. I interviewed a doctor here in Okinawa and asked him many questions about Okinawan longevity. Of course, our conversation veered towards mental health and I was surprised when he said how bad it is in Japan right now. One of the biggest reasons is the lack of social communication. THIS is exactly what I talked about in that viral interview video of me saying how I was depressed in Tokyo because of a lack of social connections (and ikigai).
What he means about 'developing country' and no hope: In the full interview on Youtube, he says he observed that most people, even in Japan, have everything they need at their fingertips—phones, food, homes, television. This convenience has inadvertently diminished motivation and aspiration, especially among the younger generation. This trend isn’t unique to Japan; it's evident in the US, UK, Australia, and many other parts of the world. So, how can we reignite motivation? How can we restore hope?

The key to longevity and health is so simple. This is Kakazu-san. She comes to this bar at least two times a week to be with her friends. She walks and takes a bus which takes almost an hour each way. But when she is here she is laughing, eating, drinking, singing, just enjoying. She tells me stories of when she was young, her experience during the Battle of Okinawa, her children, everything. And she is happy the entire time. A true example of Okinawan longevity. When I asked her what her ikigai is she said: being with her friends.

Eating healthy and exercising are important BUUUUT there is something more important. Mentality is incredibly important for health and our youth all over the world are suffering from a mental health crisis. Poor mental health is linked to poor physical health, and both are equally important. More systems need to be put into place to take mental health more seriously. #okinawa #mentalhealth #keytolongevity #truth
