" Get Off The Cross
We Need The Wood" acrylic , oil stick , ink on canvas 61" X 61"
by Danny Minnick.
Got inspired by Pablo Picasso's "Le Tremplin" which means: the diving board.
Without checking if there was water in the pool, I just took the plunge. I had to.
Can't over think. Act. Life is action. I paint. I skate. I paint. It just comes out of me.
I think about it after it's on the canvas. In my head, someone speaks at a meeting They rant, they rave. They tell war stories, they pontificate. So, I just close my eyes.
No more sanctimony, Tony! Should I say something? Nah fuck it, I'll just think it— Get off the cross, we need the wood! I keep my eyes closed, it's a whole lot of air...
I smile. I'm on a diving board, waiting for Pablo to do his Triple-Lindy. I smile more.
The meeting's over. I live another day. I feel the love I have for my wife and child & forever friend⚡️
I paint. I skate. I paint.
Life is good. #DannyMinnick #pablopicasso

💥The AGBO lobby got a major upgrade when neo-expressionist artist and professional skateboarder, Danny Minnick, installed this fantastic mural at our, “FUTURISTIC FILMMAKING: CREATIVITY AT ITS HIGHEST LEVEL”

🙏Thank you, Danny for bringing this creative spirit to our Downtown LA artist campus.

💡For this piece, Danny envisioned a world where artists reach new altitudes; living and creating amidst the clouds, traveling on hoverboards and transcending conventional boundaries to explore new realms of creativity and innovation.  This is the vision of “Futuristic Filmmaking” — a place where artistic expression reaches new heights, blending technology with limitless imagination. Symbolizing the pinnacle of artistic creation at its highest level.

New York, come by @leicastoreny @leicagalleryny , for book signing & hang eat left over Halloween 👻 candy… .. . Sunday Nov 3 tomorrow .. & check out My Traptych (trapdoor diptych) By Danny Minnick
Since I was kid, l’ve always been fascinated by trapdoors. In the movies, they led to somewhere unknown and, often to the accompaniment of spooky music, one entered at their own risk often discovering something more wicked than what they could have ever anticipated. Flash forward 40 years later and I’m still making sense of the trapdoor as a metaphor. Is it a dare, a test, a rite of passage, a rupture in reality (like some kind of portal to The Matrix), a deadly dead-end, or all the above? More fascination and inspiration came from the classic Renaissance painting by Bruegel The Elder, The Triumph Of Death. I never saw it hanging in a museum and still haven’t, but I studied the shit out of it as a little kid, staring at my older brother’s copy of Black Sabbath Greatest Hits, which featured Bruegel’s wtf! doomsday extraordinaire, front and back, as the album art. What blew my mind and still does is how life suddenly gives way to death, often without warning. Doesn’t matter who you are, how rich, how poor, how old, how young — death isn’t checking IDs. That epic image of skeletons carrying people away shows a sudden collapse of our everyday familiar world into something darker and unavoidable, kind of like opening a trap-door–you don’t know what’s on the other side but you’re about to find out because there’s no turning around! Hopefully that same feeling comes across in my first ever “Traptych,” my trap-door diptych. Comprised of two paintings, the first is 80 Leica Trika which has an errant fearless photographer out the capture the “real story.” But what’s on the other side, American Fire, is perhaps a story more devastating than imagined. I’m not saying it’s The Triumph Of Death, but maybe it’s just as hopeless. Or maybe—it’s the red-white-and-blue All American “Happy Camper” stoking optimism’s flame. Who’s to say when our American story keeps rewriting itself?
My advice: keep your eyes open, your camera ready, and beware of the trapdoor! #DannyMinnick #traptych
