4 If I Cry Within Eye Sight,
4 My Respect I’d Have 2 Fight Hurts 2 Know, Hurts I’ve Caused
2 Live, I Should Surely Die Hurts 2 Know, Hurts I’ve Caused
2 Live, 1 Am Profoundly Blessed And Live I Will, Hunter’s Pride Chasing Dreams I’ve Cast Aside Tried ‘N’ True, Sincere I’ve Bled Damn My Roses STILL Ain’t Red Someday Baby → “SOMEDAY!!!”

Will Castro (b. 1968, Brooklyn) enjoys doing self-led yoga in the corner of the drop-in. He says: “Poetry, to me, was the most beautiful thing that I could use to express the hidden me.” Will is boisterous and idiosyncratic but, like everyone, within him is another version of himself – one more vulnerable and quiet than the Will the rest of us get to see. He calls this: “The me that I hide from the world.”

OUT NOW! Today, Tomorrow and Forever is a poetry anthology featuring participants of the syringe exchange program at the VOCAL Drop-In Center (Voices Of Community Activists & Leaders) in Brooklyn. Over the past two years, Editor and Drop-In Associate Charlotte Graham has led a poetry group where participants read and discuss published work, and utilize prompts to write their own poems. This anthology collects the work written during their workshops.

Charlotte writes: “What binds the poems in this book? There is poetry in all manner of writing and speaking. Poetry in surviving; poetry in how one lives; the way a person walks into a room and asks for what they need. Poetry is movement, grace, rhythm, and poise. To me, living in poetry means that one is held together by the parts of the whole. When I first started this poetry group, one of the first things I noticed was that many participants had poems in their minds already; the same poem they’d been working on for years. A singular song that could be recited at a moment’s notice. Above all, these poems are soul-talk. They converse from the depths of the person who wrote them with clarity, gravity, and integrity.”

Featuring poems and illustrations by:
Melissa Williams
Mr. R
Michelle Mundo
Enrique Guillen
William Idel Castro
Cesar Arbarracin
Donna Diorio
West
Sarge
Jesus Rivera
Hector Castro
Porkchop
Curtis Turner
Amari Ayala
Mary Anna Dolan AKA Fanny

Every book comes with an info-bookmark and NARCAN.
20% of the proceeds will be donated to VOCAL-NY.

Remember Duck from Eugene Terry’s picture book Tuesday? He flew to a deli in search of snacks and met Cat when they both went for the Chewychips. You can now have your very own Cat to read and hang (literally) with! Cat’s paws have velcro on the ends, easy for linking together for hugs or hanging. 😼🐤

With delicate colored pencil illustrations rendered in subtle tones, Tuesday tells a simple story of adventure and friendship. The direct writing is paired with intricate imagery in which details are revealed with every read: an alligator peeking its head out of a sewer grate; the price of a Swiss cheese sandwich at the deli; a man watching television through an apartment building’s window.

Character and plushie design by Eugene Terry. Link in bio, where you can also get a copy of Tuesday! 💙

Join us October 19th for an animation workshop with @lotsagirl ✍️

Violet invites us into her process of creating animations using drawing and printmaking! During this workshop, Violet will demonstrate how she constructs “rubbings” using a flat object, which serve as single frames within a larger moving composition. Participants will then create their own rubbings using a personal object, culminating in an original animation.

The workshop will take place within @ritasalt exhibition at @entrance.nyc in the Lower East Side. Participants will be given the unique opportunity to engage with and employ Rita’s ceramic sculptures as a rubbings object alongside their own.

Snacks and tea will be provided. No prior animation experience needed.

RSVP required. Only 10 spots available! Link in bio.
Admissions: $10-20 suggested donation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Violet is an experimental animator who utilizes multi-media practices such as printmaking, drawing, photography and collage to create her animations. Her work has been featured on Dizzy TV and in Lilypad Magazine and Snuff Magazine. She has exhibited locally in New York as well as internationally in France, the UK, Japan, and her most recent solo exhibition with Pangée in Montreal, Canada. She currently lives and works in New York City.
