Times Square core memory:
I thought my parents were rich one winter because my mom would bring my brother and me to Bryant Park to ice skate all day (we had our own skates, so it was free), then see a movie in Times Square, followed by
@dallasbbq.
I remember being like, “Mom, are we rich?” And she’d fully be like, “Yeah, look outside the window,” as I ate my baby back ribs. “We’re in one of the most expensive cities in the world, and you get to have fun instead of working as a kid. Do you know how many people dream of coming here, and we get to live here?”
My mom was super pregnant with my youngest brother. Now I realize she gave us the best memories while carrying a fully cooked 9lb baby in her tummy.
My dad works A LOT, so he never really came with us, but one time, he did.
And while the whole winter was amazing, that day when my dad came a core memory was created for Sergio and me. We went to the M&M store after dinner and bought so much chocolate. I’ve never been a fan of chocolate, but the energy was magical. Then, the cherry on top was the four of us getting onto the carriages where the guy bikes you all around Times Square. Again, mom is super pregnant, and there are four of us; I don’t know how that man did it. It was so fun, and he took us back to Bryant Park so we could hop on the F train back to Briarwood.
That was just before we became big siblings; our younger siblings have a significant age gap with us, and I was 11.
