For me personally, the challenge in these films was the style. I wanted to ensure that you get very close to our women in the 30 seconds. That you understand their world and get a feeling for their personality. That’s why I choose mixed media. Personal images and videos, diary-like digicam material and metaphorical stock footage combine our skin shots and bring the individual stories to life. When I saw the board for the Skin+Me campaign for the first time, I was immediately hooked. Three women telling their own personal story about their skin. Back to my directing roots: Small team and not much preparation time. But with films that are completely real, you always feel that certain magic. Ending the year with this project is something very special. Shortly before Christmas, five young female athletes around coach @magdalenabrzeska were surprised by EUROWINGS - with flight tickets to an international tournament. The shoot was incredibly emotional, as we actually surprised the girls live in front of the camera. We did everything we could to ensure that the crew and the athletes didn’t meet on the day - logistically challenging, but it was worth it. The moment when the flight crew came into the hall not only touched the girls, but also us behind the camera. This film shows that touching emotion can rarely be planned - sometimes it’s worth taking the brave path and just letting things happen. Thanks to Eurowings and La Red for this great trust! It was a pure joy. I grew up in the mountains of Saxony and I was already on skis at the age of two and competed for almost 15 years. For me Nordic is more than just a sport - it’s a very intense childhood memory. The taste of iron in my mouth as I ski towards the finish line, completely exhausted. The biting sweat under my beanie because I’ve made a mistake again. Sliding back down. Fighting my way up. Blinking. Icy wind. Warm heart. It was an honor to shoot this film for Atomic. It’s like hiking, but faster. Like jogging in winter, but more effective. Sometimes also a bit like downhill skiing, but with more ups. But above all, it’s underrated: nordic skiing. If you come from the mountains, you know: If you go nordic skiing, you find peace, access to nature and to yourself. Nordic is the entrance to another world - and ATOMIC provides one of the keys. This film is a cinematic homage to nordic skiing and to the “we”. Because nordic skiing is not an individual sport. It is an attitude towards life. One that inspires us, makes us addicted and connects us.
