Hey everyone -

I’m happy to announce my very first solo instrumental record of meanderings and melodies: What do the people in your head say to each
other?

Like much of the music I work on - these pieces were cut live off the floor without isolation. You’ll hear the creaks and footsteps, the reaches and static as we find our way through the woods. I played guitar on the date and later added some other spectral sounds...pianos, electric bass, percussion bits, harmonicas and organs. But mostly it’s the sound and space as we cut it back in the fall of 2019.

Great musical company and support kept by:

Logan Coale (Upright Bass)

Jason Bemis Lawrence (Drumming)

JT Bates (Drumming, loops)

Justin Carrol (Hammond Organ, electric and acoustic pianos)

Stuart Bogie (Tenor Sax and Flutes)

Jordan McLean (Trumpet)

Annie Nero (Vocals)

Alecia Chakour (Vocals)

Recorded by James Yost at Reservoir, NY, NY with additional bits added by me at various times when I was moved to spill...

Mixed by my main amigo D. James Goodwin

Mastered By Fritz Myers

Art by my Grandfather - Stuart Kaufman
Layout and text - DM Stith

and produced by me and my old friend Steve Salett

Here’s to opening up the gates a bit and starting to share a little more of the music I’ve been making - between all the music I’ve been making. This stuff feeds the muse for me and I hope you all enjoy going on the adventure too.

Thanks to Mark Lotto for writing down some words about this album and for his long friendship

Thanks to Foye Johnson for his wisdom and care

Lotta love to my family and friends

Extra to Annie, Clarabelle, Benne and Gideon

Headshot by D. James Goodwin

Listen now! Stuart Bogie’s Patient Music pt. 1 is available on streaming and bandcamp.

Patient Music is two new recordings from composer/clarinetist Stuart Bogie made in collaboration with longtime friends Josh Kaufman & Sam Cohen. Created over the course of two sessions in one night in front of a small group of assembled friends, the trio showcase years of musical camaraderie in the two wholly improvised works.

Talking about the impetuous for the album Bogie says, “During the quarantine, we (my partner Karyn Starr and I) started broadcasting improvised solo clarinet concerts to drones every day. The concerts became a healing force in our lives and a way of sharing the experience with a community of souls. Friends would make drones and send them to us, so there was virtual collaboration. Before each concert we would pray together, then begin streaming. We wanted the music feed our souls. Often to a backdrop of ambulances outside and the anxious mental noise of the international crises, the music would naturally seek a state of peace, or calm, before it would take flight.

This work is a live extension of this project - two of my dearest friends and favorite artists joined me to create a piece of music made from the vibration of connections between us three, the audience in the room, and worlds beyond. Our sheet music was the feeling between us. Sam Cohen and Josh Kaufman have been wonderful collaborators over the last decade plus, and they have a deep relationship to each other. What makes this chapter of the project unique is their relationship to each other and how my approach interacts with that bond.“

Hear Patient Music pt. 1 on Bandcamp or streaming.

Patient Music pt. 2 arrives November 1st.

New (2X)LP By Bonny Light Horseman is out today!
Thanks to my bandmates(Eric and Anaïs)for plunging even deeper on this(our third) LP - love you like crazy and constantly moved by your everything-ing.

Thanks to Joe O’Leary and family for inviting us into your gorgeous town and family pub - and for being so cool and generous with the good vibrations. And special thanks to the good people of Ballydehob who graced these tracks in both spirit and song!

Thanks to JT Bates(drumming) and Cameron Ralston(bassing) for wrapping your hearts around these songs. Every one of em. Can’t wait to head back into the woods together on tour.

Thanks to our engineer, Bella Blasko(levis engineer) for being our ears and for capturing our wild Irish pub frolics.

Thanks to brother D.James Goodwin for (yet again) mixing and mastering these very feral jams. This is my favorite one yet! You’re a fuckin brilliant fella.

Thanks to the incredible Mike Lewis for your unmistakable voice and support.

Thanks to Annie Nero for giving us an ocean of a pocket to ride around in.

Thanks to Gillian Pelkonen and Nathan Vanderpool(dreamland engineers) for rescuing us as we wandered through the hills of West Hurley, NY.

Thanks to new label partner, Jagjaguwar, for heading out into this bizarre landscape with us. Really fun and kismit so far!

Thanks to Miles Johnson and Alexa Terfloth for the incredible artwork - never had an album art collaboration like that. Totally seamless.

Thanks Tom Campbell who’s painting, Martha is our LP cuv and who watched over us during our time at Levis.

Thanks Dean Christesen, Liz Riches and Foye Johnson for managing the three headed beast that is our band.

Thanks Josh Brinkman for the gigs!

New Bonny Light Horseman LP Rolling Golden Holy is out today. I love our new songs so much. Dig the record and maybe even, (if it’s not a stretch)you can buy it from a small record shop! And please stream that shit too!
Thanks Aaron Dessner for the beautiful Longpond Studio space (and with Justin Vernon for founding our label!!!)
Thanks Bella Blasko for being such a sensitive and centering presence with your whole vibe and engineering.
Thanks brother D. James Goodwin for your golden ears and deep friendship. The mixes and masters are beautiful.
Thanks Kevin Duneman at our label for being such a sweet sounding board for us.
Thanks to the buds/managers Dean, Foye and Liz for the eagle eyes and for having our backs!
Thanks to special agent Josh Brinkman for the gigs!!!
Thanks to my band mates Anais and Eric for going heart first with every note.
Thanks to JT Bates for your insanely nuanced drum poetry and devotion.
Thanks to Mike Lewis for your voice on sax and bass and for staying up late with us and improvising our way to a new horizon.
Thanks to Daniel Murphy for the attention to detail with our album art and layout.
While I’m on that tip - thanks to my grandfather, Stuart Kaufman and his painting that is leaning against the garage wall on the back cover our record. And, who, w/o realizing it, taught me how to follow and find the colors in my imagination and turn them into songs and sounds.
Also - love you for ever and ever Annie, Clara, Benne and Gideon - thanks for letting me run with this stuff.
Be good to each other - we’re all we’ve got!
