October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month There’s so many things I want to say but it still hard for me to communicate all of it. As a brca-2+ person who took their health into their own hands and had a preventative double mastectomy under a year ago I urge all to do self checks of your breast. Be vigilant in your checks and if you feel something or something “feels” off go to your doctor and get checked. The about of women I’ve met over the last year who are under 40 who have breast cancer is shocking and so I want to again share weekly checks in the shower is a must! And it’s never too early to start checking. I also want to share that I am hosting my first annual Breast Cancer Charity Event at @delamarwesthartford on 10/21/24 from 11:30-2PM and invite you all to join us to raise money to find a cure for metastatic breast cancer. The charity we will be raising these funds for is Breast Friends Fund out of Glastonbury, CT. Tickets are on sale till 10/10/24 and we would love to raise as much money as possible for the cause. You don’t have to be in the wedding industry to attend. This is open to all. It will be “Emily in Paris” themed and truly a special afternoon. If you can’t make it please consider donating to @sandy_cassa to help find a cure. Tickets can be purchased by clicking the link in our bio. And lastly if you’re someone with the gene or going through the process of possibly having a double mastectomy please know you’re not alone and that I as well as others here in CT are here to support you and help you in your process. For a long time I thought you had to be so prim and proper/business like to be taken seriously because in past jobs that’s what I had to do. But owning my own business gave me the opportunity to be me. Make my own rules and choose how I wanted to show up for myself and my clients. When I started showing my personality and who I was and what I stand for I also started to find my people: My ideal clients started inquiring and even the friends who truly are my tribe now, found me. I have to confess… showing up on here has been tough the last few weeks. As my one year since surgery date approaches I have a rush of emotions and thoughts. It’s made it a bit hard to show up and be my “normal”self. When I’m just trying to process this year. This is your reminder that you don’t always have to show up positive and perfect. This angel right here has made a huge difference in my life. My double mastectomy journey would not have been so smooth without her. I remember being in recovery and meeting her and immediately loved her. Each appointment for me to get checked or “filled” she would be so kind, so positive and supportive. After spending months together I was going in for my second surgery “the exchange of expanders for implants” and was more nervous then my first surgery. I remember hearing her voice and feeling immediately ok. She held my hand all the way to the OR. And then asked what I wanted to be played as I went under. I told her Taylor Swift “ready for it” and so as I fell asleep I felt strong and ready for my next chapter. I hope everyone has someone as caring and loving during such a crazy time in life. I’m so lucky we stay in touch and was able to attend my charity event.
