Jake and his family know first-hand the impact that a MediCinema visit can have. Diagnosed with Leukaemia at just three years old, they faced a challenging road ahead.

MediCinema provided a lifeline to little Jake, giving a much-needed sense of normality and escape through the magic of film and the shared cinema experience.

Help us to continue to support NHS patients and join our match-funded Christmas Appeal. Thanks to our generous funding partners, when you donate between now and Christmas, your donations could make double the difference.

The MediCinema at The Royal Victoria Infirmary @newcastlehosps turns 15!!

This weekend, staff, volunteers and nurses came together to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the MediCinema at the RVI with a special screening of 'A Christmas Carol' which was the first film ever to be shown at the cinema.

Since opening in 2009, we estimate that close to 42,000 visitors have enjoyed cinema experiences at the RVI at more than 2200 screenings.

We can't celebrate this huge milestone without mentioning our Senior Cinema Manager, Joss Spires, who has been with the cinema from the very beginning and has helped to bring many special moments of respite and escapism for patients over the years.

Next in our 'Favourite Christmas Movie' series is Senior Cinema Manager, Nicola Hill, who looks after our MediCinema at Guy's Hospital.

"One of my MANY favourite Christmas films is Scrooged, 1988, Bill Murray, directed by Richard Donner- need I say more?

I love it because its a beautiful example (borrowed from Mr Dickens of course) of how anyone can change their life's trajectory and become a better human if they want to.
Feelgood, but also dark and witty to balance it out!

When I watch it I cry at the end, every time. 😭 (happy tears)
(Would actually love someone to make The Night the Reindeer Died for reals! What a movie that would be!"

What's your favourite festive film? Let us know in the comments below. πŸ‘‡

Nothing says 'Christmas' like a feel-good festive film so we've been asking our Cinema Managers what their favourite Christmas movie or movie moment is.

Mike Newcombe, National Cinema Manager, has opted for a timeless classic:

"I'm going for 'Santa Claus', the movie with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. Not because it's the best film but because the opening credits and music instantly take me back to being 8 years old, lying down on top of a hideous deep-pile brown shag carpet (face in hands/legs bent) in front of a fake electric fire, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of gaudy xmas lights and (no doubt highly flammable) hanging decorations. Bliss."

What's your favourite Christmas movie and why? πŸ‘‡πŸŽ„

We're firmly in the 'festive flicks' season so we've been asking our MediCinema colleagues what their favourite seasonal movie is. Today is Jon Jones' turn, Technical Assistant at the Serennu Children's Centre.

"I know this is going to sound really cheesy now but my favourite Christmas movie is Elf and my fav scene from that movie is near the end when all hope seems lost for Santa because nobody believes in the spirit of Christmas anymore. It is such a brilliant scene when the little boy (I will call him Derek for now, because his name has escaped my mind πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) reads out what is on Santa's list for different people to try and get them all believing in Santa again. To see lots of adults singing 'Santa Claus is coming to Town' in the middle of Central Park, New York, well it gets me every time. Why can't adults still believe in the spirit of Christmas? It is a beautiful scene and very well done.

Also, I must be the only person who has never watched 'It's a Wonderful Life'. I know, I know, I need to be locked up for that crime. I must watch it soon!"

It's Christmas movie season and throughout December we're asking our Cinema Managers to share with us their favourite festive flicks!πŸŽ„

First up is @simonmhickson, Senior Cinema Manager at our @chelwestft MediCinema.

"Any other year and it would be 'It's A Wonderful Life' (the most traumatic Christmas movie ever!) but this year I'm going for 'Bad Santa'. We watched it every Christmas with our mum and so I'm picking it in her memory - "Want me to fix you some sandwiches?" This is about the only quote from the whole film without any swearing it.

To jump to another holiday classic... "Merry Christmas ya filthy animals!"

Would you choose 'Bad Santa' as your favourite Christmas Movie? Share yours in the comments below! πŸ‘‡πŸŽ…
