Working with New York Vintage gave me the opportunity to take pieces that already have a story and make them into something modern and wearable again today. As Oscar Wilde said, “all beautiful things belong to the same age”— and I like to think of our designs as future vintage, created to stand the test of time. The pieces reflect the ethos of our existing collections: they’re made to last and to be cherished for years to come. Good design endures, and that’s why people still hunt for vintage today. When we design our collections, we aim to create pieces that will become treasured collectables in the decades ahead. Born out of love and handcrafted with so much care in our Brooklyn studio. We’ve worked with vintage here and there in the collection over the years, but Jennifer wanted to design a collection using vintage flowers and trims — about a year ago we went searching for the perfect vintage partner and found @newyorkvintageinc and the Jennifer Behr x New York Vintage Collaboration was born ✨.   New York Vintage’s founder, Shannon Hoey, has collected extraordinary gowns and (more importantly for us) vintage trims for over 20 years, sourcing from around the globe. Jennifer combed through New York Vintage’s archives, pulling vintage trims and flowers off old, unwearable hats from the 1920s to the 1960s and brought them back to our studio to craft them into dramatic headpieces reimagined for today. Flowers were steamed and reassembled into new bouquets — mixing decades of inspiration. Feathers were repaired, bent, reassembled, and attached to headbands, a more modern way to wear. We added veils to some, took veils away from others. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, and feels like a story unto itself.  Styled with New York Vintage’s exquisite fashion collection, each headpiece isn’t just an accessory; it’s a piece of history and a labor of love. The pieces were restored but we left the signs of the age on pieces to honor the history, as these trims have been around for longer than we have been alive.   We think fashion should inspire, and allow us all to dream a bit. Headpieces like these do that — they add a bit of whimsy and a lot of fantasy. We promise you will have magical nights in any of these.  We hope you love it as much as we do.
