A proper full circle moment, 1976 in Colombia, a visionary, a young maestro, Julio Ernesto Estrada @frukooficial ‘Fruko’ records a cover of Shakara by the great Fela Kuti @felakutiofficial , a moment in history, an astral connection like no other, an alignment that only visionaries could create at the time, no internet, no cellphones, pure cosmic fuel! Fruko’s version under his project, Wganda Kenya was named Shakalaode (an ode to shakara?) and was released on Discos Fuentes on 1976 as a 7’ single, and later put on the album Homenaje a los embajadores. Wganda Kenya was an extremely important project which helped showcase and build the Afrosound of Colombia. Fruko hadn’t performed this song since he recorded it back in the day, now we have he absolute honour to revive this historical moment by playing our own version, a mash up between both Fela’s and Fruko’s with our own Bonita element, and of course the power of one and only @juanita_euka ! We feel humbled and proud to be able to bring this to you, this is what we are about, this are the fabrics we build from! With a career of over 15 years, she is one of Colombia’s most important independent artists, who now holds a very important place in the music history of her country.
