🎥 Community Activation Recap! 🎥
This past weekend, SJLI teamed up with some incredible organizations—@supportandfeed, @farmlinkproject, @inglewoodunifiedschooldistrict, @stoppingcrys, @piqeusa, @sugartaco, and @cenavegan—for a powerful day of service at Morningside High School.
Together, we distributed 600+ fresh produce boxes, plant-based shelf-stable food bags, and delicious vegan Mexican food trays to families in our great city of Inglewood. We also provided resources for empowerment and hygiene kits to help families stay healthy this holiday season.
🙏🏽 A huge THANK YOU to our partners, volunteers, and supporters who made this day possible. Together, we are fueling our mission to empower through education and build thriving communities.
Let’s keep the momentum going! To help SJLI continue creating sustainable, healthy food options for our communities, consider donating to our Change Is Up To Us End-of-Year Fundraiser.

💖 Kindness in Action: Meet Debra Perry 💖
Debra Perry is a true community hero whose heart and generosity shine brightly! Debra is on a mission to make sure no food goes to waste. By visiting food distributions like ours and pantries, she gathers fresh produce, baked goods, and more — not just for herself, but to share with her neighbors. “I don’t like food going to waste,” she says, turning that belief into action.
Her surprise visits to SJLI bring joy, warmth, and delicious treats she sources from local food pantries. With each act, Debra is not only combating food insecurity, but also spreading love, kindness, and hope.
Thank you, Debra, for reminding us all that small acts of kindness can have a big impact!

⭐️GIVING TUESDAY⭐️
On this #GivingTuesday, we reflect on the power of community, solidarity, and collective action. At the Social Justice Learning Institute, we believe that giving is not just about monetary contributions, but about the ways in which we invest in the future of our youth.
This global day of giving is a chance to come together, amplify the voices of our youth, and support the transformative work happening in our neighborhoods. It’s a reminder that social justice requires not only awareness but action. We know that true justice is achieved when every person, regardless of race, gender, class, or background, has the opportunity to thrive. And at SJLI, we’re dedicated to ensuring that vision becomes a reality through education, advocacy, and empowerment.

This week, we’re reflecting on the incredible impact of our work in educational equity. At SJLI, we empower young men and women of color to build a brighter future—for themselves and their communities. ✊🏾✨
Through our culturally relevant curriculum, academic support, and social justice lens, we equip students with the tools they need to excel academically, advocate for their communities, and transform their lives.
From increasing graduation rates to guiding students through the transition to college, we are cultivating a new generation of leaders committed to community-driven change.
Our programs focus on:
🔹 Self-empowerment through heritage-based education
🔹 Critical consciousness and leadership development
🔹 Academic success and college/career pathways
🔹 Community advocacy and policy change
🔹 Healing and resilience through restorative practices and mental health support
But this work is only possible because of supporters like you. Your contribution to our Change Is Up To Us End-Of-Year Fundraiser helps us continue to provide transformative opportunities for young leaders to rise up, build their sense of identity, and advocate for the change they wish to see in the world.
Will you help us?
