This wasn’t part of the final collection but it’s nice to look back at the design process; my favourite detail is the repurposed waistband tie! And that rounds up everything from the Nike ReCreation process! 🏁 It was a pleasure to work with such a great team and factory when bringing this collection to life. From her signature fleece mini-handbags to footwear adorned with discarded electrical cables, @tegaakinola is building a brand where fashion, sustainability and function coexist. Tega Akinola x @nike Re-Creation development process // ♻️ Logomania patchwork shorts - another sample that sadly stayed just a sample! The fit and silhouette were modelled after jorts popular in the 90s and early 2000s. A bunch of vintage pieces from @glassonionvintage with interesting and colourful Nike graphics and labels were used for the patchwork design. Not much else to say about this one…it speaks for itself! #nikerecreation

Tega Akinola x @nike Re-Creation development process // ♻️ One of my favourite samples that never made it! This tennis dress was inspired (again) by the iconic Serena Williams. We used 1 pair of vintage tracksuit pants from @glassonionvintage for the sample. Some details were directly repurposed - the red stripe on the side and neckline was taken from the side of the original pants and its waistband was also repurposed for the high neck. A simple design but one of my favourites. #nikerecreation

Tega Akinola x @nike Re-Creation accessories development process // ♻️ Bag, bags, bags… I dreamt about these bags everyday for like eight months straight. In the spirit of the collection theme, I searched for vintage Nike bags on resale sites like Depop and Vinted, and seeing as all of these designs were deadstock, we had to re-create the patterns for each one. A lot of trial and improvement, and working very closely with @towergarments to get them sound technically! And then came the fun part - putting inner jacket pockets on the outside, cutting pattern pieces from hoods and sleeves with interesting details, adding mesh overlay all-over, mixing material textures…essentially developing a design theme that tied everything together visually. One of my favourite design details is the slanted pocket on the tote bag - we took the placket and embroidered logo directly from the original puffer jacket that was used as material. Turned out so good, we had to make that side the front instead. #nikerecreation
