Artist Takeover | 54: Manchester This summer the first ever Artist Takeovers took place in the Warehouse space, inviting artists to experiment and create at scale. Exploring the Black British experience in the North West, artist collective 54: Manchester created an immersive audio-visual installation. Bleep: a shared voice with no words. 'Ultra Violet Neon Planet' is a film documenting the cultural origins of bleep, a subgenre of house and techno developed in Sheffield, Leeds and Bradford in the late 1980's. Using a mixture of interviews and archival film provided by Memory Dance, the documentary explores the transatlantic connection between South Yorkshire and the midwestern cities of Chicago and Detroit, unraveling the subconscious influences that shaped the sounds of bleep.
