Today, I'm grateful to share with you 'Unsung,' a composition dedicated to my father.

This piece was conceived only a few months after his passing, during a time of personal devastation when I was struggling to understand my thoughts and feelings. There are no words or notes appropriate enough to articulate my love or the heaviness of my grief, but composing something felt like the closest I’d get. The idea of writing a piece in tribute felt too daunting at first, so, I decided to treat it like a private conversation between myself and my father - something initially, only for us. It was a form of communication. A way to say the things to him I couldn’t anymore.

This piece, I should caveat, is mostly not about loss itself, rather, it is a celebration of my father's spirit and the indelible imprint he left on my life. In this piece, I strive to reflect on my father’s selflessness, his disposition as a leader and teacher, and his impassioned lifetime career as a public servant. It’s also a love letter to the wonders of aerospace - a huge part of my father’s life and something he inspired in me in a way, perhaps, more abstract than expected (that it blossomed through a love of sci-fi, music, and art, was certainly not unexpected, as he was equally responsible for that).

My father was a symbol of kind and gentle strength. Most of all, he was remarkably humble - an unsung hero who did incredible things and needed (and wanted) no show of applause.

I hope this piece helps to communicate even the tiniest smidgen of this sentiment; if it allows, for anyone listening, to know my father in some way, then it was successful.

You can find the link to the track in my bio. Also, a word of thanks to some people who without this piece wouldn't have been the same, below:

It’s been a few years since I’ve released new music without someone else’s story to inspire it. A lot has happened since 2020 - many lessons, struggles, joys, reminders of friendship, and love.

Next Friday, March 29th, I’ll be releasing a song I wrote in honor of my father, whom I lost almost a year ago this month.

It’s been a long journey to finish this piece, though I couldn’t be happier to share it with the world. Even if all this song did was to help me understand my grief and the love I held so deeply (for one of the most incredible people in my life and others) then it did all I could ask for. Regardless, I think music should be shared, and I know my dad would say - put the thing out there.

So, see you then :)

Today’s a pretty special day. Not only is my first album “RETURN” out, but my single “PAPAVER” is now featured on the @spotify #ClassicalX playlist 🤯

I can’t thank you guys enough for the support so far, and I’m very excited to hear what you all think of the album!

Although this project began as a very personal endeavor, it became something much greater because of the amazing friends and talent I’ve worked with along the way. So here’s a word of thanks...

To @bloommoosic for your incredible ear and attention to detail mixing and mastering these tracks // @brandon_mercer for the visuals that so thoughtfully and tastefully capture the story and aesthetic of this project (also @feistyt for the beautiful production design and @alexandersaladrigas for your help on set) // @mako3dayo_ for the fantastic violin additions to this album that really brought the tracks to life // @caitlinthomasmusic for your gorgeous cello playing that helped make one of my favorite tracks on the album // @diegorodoni for your analog synths genius on Surface // @andrecorea and @ambedorecords for trusting me to be a part of your collective and to release my album through your label // @gawenallain for literally listening to every track ten times over and providing a world of advice, critique, and unwavering reassurance for someone who deeply needed it // Also a special thanks to my @found.objects fam: @thisisbenmarshall , @jaywadley, @trevorgureckis, @sunshinelite , @singgumdip , @mbonesn , @chommunist - I’ve learned so much from you guys over the past couple years and could never have made this happen without your inspiration, advice, and support

Photos from Tuesday, my 29th birthday - which also happened to be Election Day 😬 I decided to take the day off and just walk around. I’m grateful to live in a place where one of the best things to do is simply get outside, with no destination, and just watch life unfold.

Film from Croatia & Bosnia-Herzegovina - Pt.1 (Vertical). Another leg of the yearly Weiss bros trip w/ @justin.weiss 🌞

Honestly I’ve been questioning why I share personal moments and vacation photos on Instagram, which has become beyond performative (especially with the lines of professionalism and social engagement so blurred) - but snapping photos when traveling is one of my favorite things. And I like sharing things that bring me joy. Something I’ve been trying to engage with at home, is reigniting that feeling of wonder and natural inspiration I get when in a new place. It’s amazing how being in a new setting is enough to get your brain focused on things you forget to appreciate at home - architecture, foliage, passerby’s and their mannerisms and they way they dress etc. it feels a bit self congratulatory posting vacation photos like this sometimes but I’ve decided that I’m not gonna let that stop me from engaging. So I hope someone on here finds some joy in these too.

Film from Maine - Pt. 2

1. More perfect weather at Schoodic Point
2. 👪
3. I aspire to be as cool as @maddy.kong one day
4. Views from Cadillac Mountain
5. 🌞
6/7. We ate a whole lot of blueberry everything this trip
8. Probably my favorite photo of the trip
9. Near Thunder Hole - We had the perfect weather with a super windy, high-tide morning, followed by rays of sunlight and the fog lifting to unveil a rainbow. I exclaimed how I wanted to move to Maine at least five times that day
10. If anyone needs nature foley or ambiance, you know who to call
11. Me being happy at Thunder Hole again
12. Top of Bubble Rock, which I ironically found to be more physically challenging to summit than the Precipice trail at times
13. Not the treehouse from Hereditary?
14. Breakfast views
15. Top of Champlain
16. Thank you to whoever parked their cool vintage car by this sunset

Acadia - Pt. 1 - Never have I wanted to develop a roll of film so quickly. More (horizontal lol) shots in the next post.

1. The view from the top of Champlain Mountain
2. Thanks to our fearless driver, Jeep QueenTM @maddy.kong for getting us to all the sunset spots. This one was my favorite.
3. Moss moss moss
4. (joy? relief?) at the peak of Champlain Mountain, after strategically only looking forward and up for an hour and a half on the Precipice Trail
5. Winding roads on Cadillac Mountain
6. This was a very Maine scene outside of our lunch spot. Not pictured: the butterfly-bedazzled biker gang eating their lobster rolls behind us
7. Cuties @maddy.kong @garethwongg
8. Some nice pines
9. 🌅🪑

The Finale/Credits from Skin Can Breathe (2022) - you can watch the full film now on HBO Max.

I never got around to posting this, as back in 2022 I wasn't in the habit of sharing my music/music for film etc. as often, but I've been trying to change that and lean into the discomfort I feel sharing work I'm proud of on social media.

Working with @chheangkea on this film was really a blessing and I felt so lucky to be able to explore a sound for this film that was so rich in romanticism and tradition, doing my best to impart flavors of some of my favorite pieces by Rachmaninoff, Holst, Debussy etc. I really wanted to give these underwater sequences their own sonic identity, something dream-like and distinct from the other scenes that are so stark and quiet and real. It's ended up being one of my favorite cues I've written to date.
