Anyone who knows me, knows “Paris 1919” by the legendary @therealjohncale is absolutely one of my top records EVER of all time. It has been a mainstay in my life, always a record I go back to and cherish and marvel and discover something new I love about it over the years. Like an old friend that is always there for you. I love this record in ways I cannot articulate in words.

So excited to announce that I had the SUPREME privilege of remastering “Paris 1919” and “The Academy in Peril” out in Nov @dominorecordco

This was a long elaborate journey with John at the helm; revisiting the old sessions from the original 1/4” EMI tapes, lots of detective work checking past reissues on various formats, discovering some golden nuggets during the recording process and piecing them together, many fun discussions with John who had incredible and bold ideas about doing something really cool & ambitious for a remaster. It’s a little piece of insight into what it felt like to be a fly on the wall while he was recording it between 1972-73.

Thank you so much to John Cale & Nita Scott. It’s an enormous privilege to work with you

Team Domino for being the best; @famousclass @gkarrberg Pushkar Ojha

And Chris Bellman who did a stellar job with the lacquer cut and his patience with the many back and forths until we nailed it.

Remastered by me

“Revisiting work from the past is a double-edged sword for me. Of course, it’s bound to happen when you've been making music for 60 years or so. . . What's unique about this process with Domino, is their desire to get it right. Not merely re-issue something for the sake of an anniversary or racking up a catalogue favorite - but finding new treasures and highlighting what made it special in the first place. After hearing the test pressings, it occurred to me that the new mastering was a major part of how these works will be presented, rather than simply being preserved. There are moments of clarity and even a laugh or two had by revisiting not only the music, but recalling the sessions (and antics) that made up what became these two recordings. It is my pleasure to share these with you . . . again.” – John Cale, September 2024

FOSSORA by @bjork

She is here. B10! Thank you Björk for your generosity, your trust in me, your brilliant brilliant production mind & quest to dig deeper and find the most forward thinking musical structures and ideas that blew my mind out of my skull…& just letting me be part of the iridescent sonic tapestry you weave….it is like spinning magic. It was an unbelievable honour working on this album with Björk but also having a total blast after a long mix week and blasting tunes on the ATCs and dancing our hearts out.

Thank you Bergur @bergurth for your incredible engineering work, trombone playing & being the best engineering teammate on this journey.

Photos taken over the course of the last year in Iceland from 2021-2022. Björk and I mixed Fossora together in Reykjavik at her place. We had a small cozy setup equipped with @atc_loudspeakers & @kii_audio_gmbh monitors in 2021 then later on we took it to the finish line at Bergur’s studio by the harbour in Reykjavik and finally at my studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Mastering all done at my studio in Brooklyn, NY.

Bergur and I spent a month at his studio in Reykjavik earlier this year mixing and mastering the spatial audio of the album.

Produced by @bjork

Engineering by @bergurth & @jakealexandermiller

Beats by @bjork @kasimyn @siiiiideproject
Additional production by @elguincho
Clarinets by Murmuri
Flutes by @viibraflutes
Choir by Hamrahlíð
Strings by @siggistringquartet

Vocals by @serpentwithfeet @emilienicolasofficial @d0lgur & Sindri Eldon

Album Mixed and Mastered by me

Vinyl Mastering & cut by @joshbonati

Spatial mixes & masters by @bergurth and me

Amazing visuals and creative codirection by @james.t.merry & @vidarlogi

The last time I saw Maestro Sakamoto @skmtgram was at Germano Studios right before the lockdown. He was in the middle of mixing a score and I was in the middle of a major studio build out and I wanted to return some very valuable BTTB DAT tapes back to his team. He happened to be mid break and I walked in sat for a few minutes. We talked about my build out and just how stressed I was…he was so kind and gave me a wonderful pep talk I needed. Then I left to head back to construction to deal with fabric panels or an electrician or something. It was a lovely summer day, little did I know this was the last time I would see him.

I have worked on so many of his releases but I must say remastering Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence takes the cake. It’s not just because it’s his inaugural score and acting debut as Capt Yonoi alongside David Bowie, or his beautiful collaboration with David Sylvian….its the pivotal importance of this score in the world of film. This is the first score that came into my awareness as something bigger than the film itself. It’s the first time a piece of film music cannot be separated from the visual. It supersedes and takes a life of its own thanks to his massive gift for music. A genius in the truest sense. Anytime I think of Ryuichi, I feel overcome with grief…but then I remember the vault of treasures he left us and how lucky I am I came into his orbit. So honoured to work on this extremely important piece of music from original tapes.

Remastered by me and available on 180gram vinyl

Vinyl cut by Ueda at Toyo Kasei

Preorder available now

Big thanks to Alec Fellman, Maria Takeuchi and of course Norika Sora

@sade magnificent video directed by Sophie Muller from TRANSA. Out today @redhotorg

Mastered by me

TRAИƧA the album via @redhotorg now available for preorder as a limited edition vinyl box set at transa.world.

TRANSA gathers 100+ artists in celebration of the gifts trans people give to the world. Find all 46 tracks in eight chapters on streaming platforms everywhere.

Trans people have always existed, with many different names across time and culture, often as spiritual healers and leaders. As global systems continue to fail humanity and all life on Earth, trans people—and peoples who have been oppressed—show us blueprints of possibility. May this be a glimpse of our collective liberation, and the light inside all of us.

This was a sprawling effort that spanned months. Entire compilation is mastered by me (except two tracks). I have to give immense thanks to @fkadust @massima.bell @eliaeinhorn @iterrytommy @iamkatieg and @spiritual_hygiene for their trust in completing a project of this magnitude. Please give it a listen today. This album is pure love.

I got The Breeders “Last Splash” CD in 1996 after enlisting my best friend Dina to grab it when she was travelling to Europe on a family trip. Finding any indie records specifically anything off @4ad in Egypt was virtually impossible in the 90s, there was zero distro and zero access, you *had* to travel abroad… so this was a pretty momentous occasion and a long ass wait to finally have this CD in my hands. It still sits in my record collection in my bedroom in Heliopolis. I was 15 so the impression it left on me was massive.

Fast forward to now, working with @kimdealmusicofficial an ICON to me and so many others, is beyond my wildest dreams. Thank you Kim for showing myself and so many others what being a cool shredder is, what it is to be genuine with serious chops and to also just be a really fucking nice person in this relentless industry.

Kim Deal’s debut solo album “Nobody Loves You More” is out today on @4ad 🦩

Photos from our mastering session with Kim and @edhorroxx the album was mastered entirely off 1/2” tape at 30ips

Produced by Kim Deal
Engineered by the late & deeply missed Steve Albini as well as engineering by Kim, Ben Humphrey & Mike Montgomery
Mixed to perfection by @martasalogni

TRANSA’s 8 chapters define the album as a spiritual journey. A protective figure in the TRANSA universe has been @heba_kadry — the mastering engineer who took on the expansiveness of this concept album at its 46-track length, working at the very heart of TRANSA as its closest listener.

Here Heba introduces the structure that met her great care, along with creators @massima.bell and Dust Reid @fkadust ✨

Video of Massima and Dust by Alex Tepper.

Sign up at transa.world for first access to physical releases. TRANSA the album is out tomorrow, 11.22.

Palestinian oud singer and composer @kamilya_jubran performance at @le_guess_who as part of my curation last year. You can watch the full performance on YT.

A lifetime highlight watching this legend perform. Myself and the entire audience was destroyed to tears, holding our breath. Those that could understand the words, lost it a little bit. I definitely did. In light of the atrocities that continue to be committed on Palestine and Lebanon especially on children, funded by our taxes by this odious administration…this composition with Paul Chaoul’s poetry couldn’t be more salient.
Thank you Kamilya, your music just somehow helps us keep it together while we are all mentally falling apart witnessing these horrors.
