JADE is breaking the rulebook of pop stardom 🪽 Now very much in her reinvention era, @jadethirlwall is excited to show the world what she can do as a solo artist after iconic girl group Little Mix entered permanent hiatus. “The fact we lasted for that long… is crazy,” JADE tells us. “People still don’t know so much about us as individuals. I liked the idea of being the most mysterious, like, what’s she going to do?” After a brief departure from the limelight, she came back swinging with her solo debut, “Angel of My Dreams.” “I needed to take a step back,” JADE says of the two-year period of calm and isolation. Even if you aren’t familiar with @jadethirlwall’s work in Little Mix, you only have to look up “Angel of My Dreams” to understand that you’re dealing with international gay-club royalty. Channeling the twisted theatricality of early Lady Gaga and the manic meta-commentary of newly solo Gwen Stefani, “Angel” is a tempo-shifting, wig-flying, zero-f*cks account of Thirlwall’s love-hate relationship with the music industry, with a darkly comic music video that does in four minutes what ‘The Idol’ basically tried to do in its whole first season. For her Night Out With NYLON, Thirlwall took @nolanfeeney to Brooklyn’s @3dollarbillbk (naturally), where drag queens performed her songs to a crowd of NYC’s hippest and sweatiest queers. “I’ll probably get on stage and shake my little titties,” she says, “I will be getting drunk.
