I’ve discovered so many directors I love through these platforms and during quarantine, I scribbled in a journal somewhere that I hoped one day I’d make work capable of holding a space at the table. Feeling fuzzy and grateful for everything that’s happened so far and everything left to come. Can’t believe I’m lucky enough to work with so many amazing collaborators whose efforts shine through in all of these projects. I love each and every one of you. Special shout out to @ace_buck for lensing every single one of these frames. You are my North Star.

When I think of my mother, I can’t help but feel joyful. More and more, over the past few years I felt pulled to try to capture snippets of her silliness, of her warmth, as if I were trying to stockpile a reserve for myself, knowing that someday I would need them. Over the last 10 months, as I watched her suffering and pain grow denser and more insurmountable, I avoided looking at images of my mother that would remind me of a time before her cancer. I didn’t want to acknowledge the differences that were occurring, the ways in which she couldn’t be the person she was before as her body became increasingly uninhabitable. Now, two days after her passing, I find myself turning to these memories and I notice that through my own tears and heartache, I also feel thankful. At the very least, she’s been liberated from an existence that no longer allowed her to really live. And at the very best, she’s out there somewhere, on the next great adventure, the funniest and warmest and bravest person I’ve ever known, discovering the wonders of whatever comes next, and warming a space for me on the sofa next to her so she can show me everything she’s discovered when we meet again.

Grown is finally out in the world 🥹❤️ I cannot express how good it felt to hold a camera again. To work in narrative again. When Jeremy sent me Jaja’s script, I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of this process. Watching her manifest this film into being was such a gift. In awe of @joshuahmelnick and @shortybel for bringing everything to the table and for graciously freezing your tushies off in a pool with me 😭❤️ @jeremymtruong and @owenlazur… I can’t not smile at the thought of Owen and I tumbling down flushing avenue in an equip truck with slashed tires, on speaker phone with Jeremy who is trying to break into his own locked apartment, and call time is in 30 mins. At that point, the only thing left are giggles. I love you both to pieces. There’s not a thing that didn’t go wrong on this film and y’all still managed to pull it off. Thank you @clurrrwith3rs for chain smoking with me, for lending me your eye, for being the only person who could have done this with me and had us both come out laughing. @theronandalyshow you were a pillar of calm in a frantic blizzard. Thank you for being you. @allie_iacono you are literally bottled goodness. Thank you for helping my back to literally not break. @fellow_yolks thank you for keeping it sharp and for singing ratatouille to me. That’s my spiel. I’m so excited Grown is here for you all.
