Beyond excited to share this with you. The first time I showcase this personal body of work in form of a photography exhibition. The first part, ‘Odyssey of Reconnection’, is a body of work that studies as much the personal relationship with my fatherland Cabo Verde, as much as it explores the wider dialogue between cultures, shaped by a shared part of history. Started in 2018, this journalistic piece has influenced every part of my work taken since and continues to inspire me to do more. When getting invited by @alianzafrancesacali to put up a show with my work I felt the importancy to open up this dialogue in another part of the world. One I found so much joy and aligned connections with: Colombia. And it fills me with joy to see the work connect with a wider audience in the latin world. Dark Elegance, 2024 For @wei.long_xie ’s Black Swan shoe. To re-envision such a classic tale is always a special occassion. A good villain isn’t one-dimensional and they never should be. So capturing both the beauty of the artform as well as the darkness and mystery of the character, and juxtaposing these two elements in a way that is elegant and dreamy, was a challenge. One that @yosclark mastered effortlessly through his expressionistic body movement. Furthermore the amount of eye for detail @megumi.matsuno and @x_sjourdan put into was inspiring. Utopia Shown at Art Icon Paris 2024 I’ve had the absolute pleasure being invited to showcase my photographic work titled ‘Utopia’ in Paris this year, as part of @art_icon.official : Corporeality exhibition. The photograph originally taken for @thepinkprincemagazine a few years ago played on the blurred lines of reality. As a team we focussed on the juxtaposition of meaning and aesthetics and put to question what gets lost along the way, in pursuit of progress. There is so much more that went into this series, images which I will re-share at some point, but for now I am just excited to see my photograph coming back to life after years in the archive. Dark Elegance Beyond excited to see my photograph being shortlisted for the People’s Vote Awards up on @1839awards ‘Dark Elegance’ re-interprets the story of Odile, the black swan into a new light. Inspired by the classic tale ‘The Swan Lake’, our efforts went into capturing and re-envisioning the beauty of the artform of ballet as much as adding complexity to this story. Traditions of Sucre From the Bolivia Journals, 2024 It didn’t take long to fall in love with the beauty of Bolivia’s captial Sucre. Historic buildings, delicious food and culture beyond end. But one of the most captivating moments in Sucre was their continuous cultural effort put up for show at the Plaza de 25 de Mayo. No matter when, there was always something going on offering its citizens new ways to engage with their city. And so it happened that we got all caught up in this amazing showcase of traditional dances, with citizens of all ages showcasing their skills. A beautiful celebration of culture, pride, and joy.
