Taking you on a journey through Malaysia, from sambal's to noodle-packed heroes, this is a true celebration of the most iconic Malaysian dishes, street food culture, mum’s cooking, and the dishes that have shaped our journey. Inside, you’ll find Sugen’s secrets behind your Roti King favourites and some added extras.

When you think about Malaysian cuisine, it’s impossible to pick one standout dish. Malaysian food is a beautiful mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous influences, each one adding its own influence through flavours, ingredients, and techniques that make the food so special and unique.
That incredible fusion of cultures is exactly what we have tried to capture throughout the cookbook. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the dishes that define our heritage, our culture, and the memories that bring us together. From treasured family recipes to street food favourites, every page tells a story of connection, tradition, and, of course, amazing food.
Over the past year, our founder, Sugen Gopal, has poured his heart into this book, celebrating the food, people, and stories that define Malaysian cuisine, with a few of your favourite Roti King dishes included for good measure.

For us, roti is home. It’s the smell of dough hitting the griddle, the sound of it slapping on the counter, and the joy it brings as you get ready to tear and dunk it into your choice of kari. It’s at the heart of what we do, why you’ve shown us so much love, and a big part of our journey to where we are today. We’re not saying all our success is because of roti, but let’s be real—it’s definitely the hero of our story.

Char Kuey Teow translates to 'stir-fried flat noodles,' and that’s exactly what this is. Traditionally enjoyed with cockles in Malaysia, our version features a trio of proteins; egg, chicken, and prawns and is wok-fired on the highest heat to form those extra special crisp bites.
