The risk of us going extinct has always seemed quite far to me. Science fiction almost, unlikely to happen in our lifetime. Until I recently heard about the 12 years point of no return, where the effects of the climate crisis will become irreversible. 12 years is soon. And although we all have our role to play, responsibilities to take, I feel enraged by how the world is ruled. By the lack of wisdom, kindness, humanity in our leaders. More and more, this anger is coupled with the hope that a raising number of people are opening their eyes (including myself) and push for a fairer, more intelligently organised society. What a pleasure (and honour i must say) to edit the videos of Noah Becker for “The glass half full” exhibition. 4 films outrageously long (around one hour each) consisting in endless, hypnotising painting-performances. I remember Noah saying at our firs meeting: “I want people to watch it and feel exhausted.” And me thinking : “how brave not to please people.” I grew into loving this concept, as most of the things I do and see online are fast-pace flashy pieces of footage put on top of each other in an overwhelming feature. The most interesting was to go against my instinct of cutting the little less-perfect bits and speeding up the less-exciting parts, to create a piece of non-refined time, in which an artist is passing his own feeling of exhaustion into his work. A real and raw taste. You can see those videos along with the astonishing paintings of Noah at the Galerie Mond Berlin until September 15th. Sometimes we end up in places, with people, and it all feels so familiar. Like we grew parallel to each other, without knowing, but heading like meteors towards the same direction. We found ourselves in the PROEM realm. Encapsulated in a time-space continuum whose portal is closed now. But what has been done during this week can not go undone. THANK YOU @ecemanav for your genius in creating experiences with a meaning together with @freyaalt_ . This exhibition was so well curated. And it is so precious for us artists to leave the digital realm for meeting visitors of flesh and blood.
