The Third Entity, 2021 🗿

We perceive ourselves only in relation to those around us; consciousness is experienced by contrast. However, ‘mixing’ is a term we rarely talk about; when we are with others, especially loved ones, we mix and it becomes harder to tell if we are still apart.

The sculpture meditates on togetherness and apartness in social spaces, looking at the fixity of borders and skin. We need borders to separate - between inside and outside, me and you, up and down, here and there, right and wrong. There are many concepts attempting to interpret the complexity of human connection and the unseen space that develops between them. How do we frame the subjects involved and where do the boundaries lie between them? Can an interaction itself be viewed as an additional entity? Or can we become one through an interaction?

Really happy to announce that we will perform a new body of work this Saturday the 13th at 5pm at @copelandparkse as part of @peckham24photo curated by @tomlovelacestudio 🏠️

As the influence of emerging technologies continues to define and redefine our realities, ‘A Whole Population Housed Inside a Single Body’ explores and expands upon the roles of digital, technological and organic interfaces as mediators toward a shared existence.

Human experiences are lived and held in the body. Skin, clothing and other physical cues from our external surfaces shape the visible and tangible human interface.

An interface which is in constant flux, navigating both physical and digital realms through sight, sound and touch. Within these realms, everything moves in relation to each other. Nothing is isolated, nor can it be understood without all other things.

To be a body isn’t to be in space, it is to be of it. As the boundaries between collective bodies merge and individuality is reimagined, we find elements of others within us and recognise ourselves in others. Nobody is untouched by the world(s) they inhabit.

I am really excited to share that ‘I Hold You Together’ will be exhibited as part of 'RUPTURED WAVE' alongside beautiful work by
@laurenbevanart
@camilla_bliss
@thomashjelmstudio

PV is on the 12th of October at 15 Bateman Street
W1D 3AQ from 6pm till late -  I hope to see you there 💘

‘I Hold you Together’ is a visualisation of two bodies melting into one: one holding and the other being held. The mingled bodies create a blur by undoing the clear lines between them, suggesting that it is rarely either or but usually both - nobody is untouched by the world they live in. The work explores fragmentation, asking what is the thing that holds us in place - that keeps us together?

Art direction and photography for the very first @extraless report alongside @okrm_london 📨

Reimagining the corporation for a new generation means accepting and embracing the idea that profit can no longer be the sole motivator for business. By adopting the logic of ‘Futurethought, culture, community, and ecology must be recognised as integral, albeit often silent, partners that are crucial stakeholders in a company’s future success. To explore and embody this shift, EXTRALESS and OK-RM have merged minds in an ongoing collaboration. This partnership delves into the harmonies, contrasts, and potential of what it means to pursue a truly collective project.

The first output, Report 01, is a performance piece structured in three acts, each composed of three movements. These movements draw inspiration from the EXTRALESS manifesto, focusing on three key themes: “Noticeably Normal,” “Shared Humanity,” and
“Autonomy of the Self”.

Performed by @edwinlouisfilm , @zahravannguy3n , and @yiling_zhao_ , with movement direction by @lewiswalker_x , the acts are accompanied by unique scores from EXTRALESS co-founder @future.tokunbo .

The performance is captured by an intricate system, oscillating between subjective and objective views, operated by Joseph Reddy, Anna-Lena Krause, and their crew. The garments, also known as Softwear and Lifetools, are designed by Badé and Tokunbo Fatona, with styling by Gerry O'Kane, and hair and makeup by Takuya Uchiyama. Site programming Tristan Bagot.

In the making of our performance for @club_are 🌀

Exploring the way we are shaped through the connection with others, four bodies intertwine and break apart—at times gently, at times with force—lit only by the glow of our phones. The screens became both torch and shield, framing our gaze as spectators, within the performance itself.

@lulu_wangyx @lewiswalker_x @jshwlfrd

Accompanied by beautiful installation from @fredriktjaerandsen
Styled by @inesbizarro
Soundscape by @jshwlfrd

Thanks for inviting us @mikakailes and @abdula.jama

‘Holding Hands In The Dark’ was exhibited last month at @guts_gallery - curated by @mia.merilu as part of ‘The Future of Lonliness’ 🧡
___

“We aren’t as solid as we once thought. We’re embodied but we’re also networks, expanding out into empty space, living on inside machines and in other people’s heads, memories and data streams as well as flesh. We’re being watched and we do not have control. We long for contact and it makes us afraid. But as long as we’re still capable of feeling and expressing vulnerability, intimacy stands a chance” (Olivia Laing, The Future of Loneliness, 2015).

The Future of Loneliness, a group exhibition curated by Maria Dolfini (@mia.merilu). Drawing from Olivia Laing’s homonymous essay, the show explores interpretations of loneliness and intimacy in present times, probing the impact of current technological and social structures on our ability to connect and find authenticity in human contact.

‘The Third Entity’ exhibited at @ohshprojects as part of the 8th edition of @peckham24photo - exploring notions of how the body is displayed using experimental photographic techniques and photography’s multi-layered relationship to history, co-curated by @bakerbang.

The artists in the exhibition expanded the medium by incorporating processes such as assemblage, photomontage, painting, digital manipulation, and playing with image quality. Bodies were stretched, remixed, and transformed 🫂
