Hello friends. Allow me a moment to share something important with you. I’ve been working with @emily_mcdon on a very special documentary called Worth Saving about the addiction recovery charity in Philadelphia @savagesistersfilm, headed up by the power house @sarah.laurel.517 and produced by us at @pwofilms. We spent two weeks with them earlier this year covering their tireless work dealing with the epicentre of America’s growing opioid epidemic, Kensington Avenue in Philadelphia. Their unique approach to recovery and using harm reduction techniques has seen a dramatically reduced drop out rate than your traditional approaches to addiction recovery. It’s grassroots initiatives like Savage Sisters that step in when the local government has failed to find a solution. Which is why it’s so important that we share their story. We are currently raising money to continue shooting this project, with our eyes set on August as our next trip. In an almost movie-like fashion a delayed Friday night anniversary dinner spiraled into waters breaking and hospital ubers. There's almost this funny feeling that when you’re pregnant, you feel like you'll be perpetually pregnant forever. The concept of having a kid still feels so alien right up until the very moment they arrive crying themselves into the world. It was exactly 15.54 on Sunday 22nd August that Kasper became a reality, 3 weeks earlier than we anticipated. I watched Kelly take every step into the unknown with such strength, it wasn’t the birth we planned but rarely it ever is. My panicked response was to stay awake until the moment he was born and there’s nothing quite like the soundtrack of your son's heartbeat to help you do that. We’re at home now, there’s 3 of us. At times I feel a level of responsibility that is quite honestly too overwhelming to fit inside my mind. Day by day is the mantra from here on out. To all our family and friends that supported us throughout this journey. You know who you are. And endless thanks to the midwives of Kings Hospital.
