The massive babe that is @zoejjohnston on a beach in Formentera 🏝️ I love how travelling with friends equates to light years. A day feels like a week. One dinner with good conversations can feel like months of chit chat. The in between moments, the car rides down dusty roads, the early morning half-awake kitchen crossings, the peak heat hideaways by a hammock and ice cooled drink ~ they amount to so much more than the twice cancelled, once rain checked coffee in a big city where one person is on their phone answering an unhappy client and the other is wondering how they’re gonna get home cos the G train is down. Travelling minimises the noise so you can bring the decibel down to zero, get your feet sandy and lay on a beach and do nothing but be.

9 months in, 9 months out Enamoured with the magic quality of the female body, I spent most of my pregnancy in awe of growing a soul inside myself. My singular breath uniting two beating hearts made me feel like a superhero. I dialled into her wellbeing and subsequently my own. In birthing her, I trusted my body beyond my own belief. But interestingly, when she arrived earth side, I was swept up out of my heart and into my head. Never had I count so much in my life; hours of sleep, mls of milk, wake windows, poos/wees, how much tummy time, how much weight gain. A constant measuring. Using metrics to approve how well I was doing as a mother. My focus became about technique. Obsessing over finding a pattern or a routine to “master” in order to find some sense of order and control. During a recent session with my doula, I realised how far away I was from this magic mother perception I, not long ago, had of myself. And why was it, when my baby is on the outside, all of a sudden I lost this deep sense of knowing and intuition? Why did I rely on these metrics to measure if I was doing the right thing? Perhaps it’s the exhaustion, the lack of sleep, the desperation to feel in control. Was it was easier for reddit to tell me if my baby was well-slept, rather than just tuning into her? A recent trip as a family away I turned to my husband and said, fuck the schedule, let’s just flow with her. And so that’s what we did. She ate when she was hungry. She slept when she was tired. Some days it was more, some days it was less. There wasn’t a perfect number we were trying to hit. She was consistently happy, smiley and a joy to be around. We were in flow. We were in tune with one another, just like we were in the womb. And this magic mother in me reared her head again and I’d like to hope she’ll stay around. Feels right!

There’s nothing like meeting the edges of life with women who will dance on the verge with you, who will spiral with you both directions, who will hold you and then release you 🌀 🪽filled with utter gratitude for the shape shifting nature of sisterhood and how it continues to show up for me

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN for @axa Remarkably, I found out I was pregnant the eve before leaving for principal photography of this film. The 6 week production took me to Slovenia, Bangkok and Paris all within my first trimester of pregnancy, drawing me even closer to the characters in the film and potency of the stories. As I explored the themes of birth, girlhood, womanhood to motherhood — I was growing life inside me and embarking on my own inner transformation. It wasn’t until after the film was complete that I discovered I was having a girl. The synchronicity of art imitating life! Thirty 🎂 I am in awe of this human @jaredclayton__ and how he’s managed to smoosh a lifetime of joy into just three decades. How he embraced fatherhood with teary eyes and a devoted heart. How he is the bravest and most loyal friend, collaborator, son, husband and father who will always put those he loves before himself. It’s his selfless sacrifice. And his relentless pursuit for deeper meaning, seeking truth and repelling bullshit, in all facets of his life. That makes him a man you hope you cross paths with, so he can open your heart and soul and show you a more wholesome way of being. And I’m just thrilled I’m part of the ride with you, you are the best thing in my life. Happy birthday ♾️

From the passenger seat on a recent road trip from Wyoming to Idaho. Decluttering the mind has become an important, if not essential, ritual in life. The only way to really do that is to go somewhere free of digital distractions. In this case, a land without internet. My heart, my brain, my lungs, my eyes, my neck, my soul and my spirit thanked me. We all know we spend too many hours online, tethered and disconnected. It’s nothing new and I certainly haven’t perfected the art of mindfulness. But being in nature, unable to access the modern temptations that suck life out of me, is a good place to start. I share these images as a reminder that staring out a window that isn’t your bedroom’s, overlooking landscapes that feel totally foreign can be healing ❤️‍🩹

One of those weeks that I’ll forever cherish, wrapped up amongst best friends, swallowed by salt and sunshine. These three humans know how to crack open my heart and fill it with joy, the kind that reminds me of being a kid again. Endless adventure and play, amazement and curiosity with our world - oh how she beholds such beauty! And even better is this world when shared with those we love 🤍💫

Still coming down from the whirlwind of this year. LA > SYD > TOKYO > NYC > SLOVENIA > BANGKOK > PARIS With no break in between, it has been a beast. But a beautiful one!
