This was a fun, BIG set up for a new show- Disney’s ‘Saturdays’. We supplied our camera gear with @guillaume_le_mezo at the helm to help capture the the shows intro title sequence. A huge thanks to our supportive crew and @atlaslightingchicago for bringing the lighting gear. Congratulations to all our friends and colleagues in Chicago that worked full time on the show.

This one was a rough one!

I was booked for a two day shoot, two commercials, I told myself it was going to be a breeze, very simple.
Well, I was wrong, it ended up being the most chaotic shoot I ever had...

The culprit: FOOD POISONING!

I woke up the day of the shoot and had to run you know where. That was in the mist of Covid paranoia, damn that's my luck.
Open a Covid test, negative, great I still feel like shit though, reach out to the producer and director letting them know that I don't have covid but I am definitely in a bad spot.
I meet with the producer chicagoamystewart on site, she is very nice, she is giving me the option to either go back home or try my best.
I could tell in her eyes that she might prefer me to take care of myself at home. At the time I didn't have a lot of DP opportunities so I felt like I had to go for it, definitely not the wisest decision.
For the first commercial, I was half of the time on the dolly, half of the time running to the bathroom.
It was quite embarrassing and very difficult to focus on the job. It ended up being my worse work as DP.
I had to at least save the second commercial (this one), Adrenaline and bananas/Pedyalite diet took over my brain signals to run away.
It is not my finest work but I can be proud of it when looking back at the circumstances.
Thanks to the crew to help me conquer this "easy peasy" commercial.

Here is an other Motorola video I've shot.
This one was supposed to feel like we were in Cancun.
The funny part is that when we shot "The cabana", we were actually on a balcony in March and it was freezing cold in Chicago!
I always have a huge respect for actors pretending it is warm when it is actually quite the opposite.

Fun crew as always:

An other one I DP'ed with my good friends @hvhparismarseille who produced and directed.
The challenge on this one was to sell that the Brazilian Footballer Nenê was the one juggling the whole time, while in fact we had a juggling freestyler champion on set with us.
We knew we were going to shoot the famous footballer later on.
So I had to make sure that the lighting was very contrasty to not see their face.
I always loved working with hard lights and this one gave me the freedom to have fun.
After shooting the main spot, we headed to the Adidas shop headquarter on the Champs Elysées to shoot Nenê, he was there to sign autographs.
It turned out that the only location we could shoot was a 3x3 utility closet full of brooms and cleaning supplies.
He actually laughed a lot when he saw the set up, I had put a strong fresnel light on top of his head, stopped down as much as possible and that was it.
We had only 10 minutes with Nenê but we had a lot of fun with him, very nice guy and also since then one of the best footballer at juggling.

Here is a music video I shot for the talented artist @subhimusic
I used to direct/DP videos with Subhi until one day, I met the director @pulkitdatta on the set of a commercial.
Pulkit is a good friend of Subhi, we thought it was a good coincidence that we both knew her and decided to collaborate together on a new music video.
We shot it in 4 hours, on a windy night of summer, thanks @jakebrusha for helping us with gear.

Here is an other Motorola video I did as DP/Gaffer.
We did this one in a small office of the Merchandise Mart with no windows and we needed to make it look like a bedroom.
Small crew, small amount of time, I had to light, dolly and pull focus myself which can always be a challenge in these conditions.
We did two videos on this day which was quite a bit but these shoots are always very chill and working with friends makes a big difference.
I'll post the second video later on, @ryanzeller shot beautiful pick up shots for it.

Production company: @punchupcreative
Producer: @mark.boourns
Director: Chris Sato
Photographer: @jacenk
Art director: Maren Celest
Art assistant: Diana Bowden
HMU: MK Papadatos

Here is the trailer of a TV series pilot I shot a way back in France.
I always loved to shoot narrative because you have the freedom to be very creative.
While reading a script, I always do a first read for the story, then on the second read I try to picture how each frame of the film would look best, it is a good way to keep your imagination running. You're going to have to deal with tons of obstacles during the production process, they are going to mess with you, stuff like budget, locations, timeframe, crew size, weather, these obstacles are going to keep your brain sharp at all time. I think what I like the most about the film industry is that you have to constantly find solutions to new problems, and it is always different for each project. I think these obstacles are actually a form of creativity, the final product will result on how you decided to solve these problems.
From reading the script to the last phase of coloring there is so many directions you could choose to go, at the end, all these choices are going to be the cinematography identity you're giving to the movie. To me, it is a matter to be as close as possible to the vision I had while reading the script, it is not and will never be the case but sometimes good surprises happen.
Having a good crew is always key to success.

Not long ago I was told by a producer that I didn't get the job and then he said: "by the way the client didn't look at your website but at your Instagram instead"
I was quite shocked... to me Insta was never meant to be a work platform, if you'd like to see my work, please go to my website but not where I take pictures of my vacations.
Well, these days it is unfortunately a reality, people get hired because of their Instagram.
So, I'm going to swallow my old school mentality, go with the flow, and post most of my DP work in here.

Here we go.

I shot this spot a long time ago, at the time where the 5D/L series lenses were the bomb. Also at that time I still had a lot of hair.
Always a pleasure to travel to Marseille to shoot with my friends @hvhparismarseille .
We were shooting these spots with a very minimal crew, producers were directing and for this one I was doing lighting/camera by myself.
At the time there was no Astera tubes nor Quasars so you had to go to a hardware store, buy fluorescent ceiling lights, rig them, power them, and try to make them look cool in frame. The difficulty on this shoot was to turn them on when we wanted, there was no app or Ipad to help you do that.
We had to plug them in one by one, and because there was always a delay when turning them on, it became quite a challenge. We had 4 at the bottom and 7 at the top, I have to say, it was a lighting choreography to make it work precisely during the dolly push.
We shot this spot at the Velodrome, the pride of Marseille.

Well, Instagram, you got me, but don't expect me to buy fake followers.

Here is a WW2 documentary I worked on as 2nd unit DP with my friend @clillard425 as main DP. I was mainly in charge of shooting the B-roll/reenactments which were pretty fun, I had to coordinate tanks going full speed or shooting « fake » grenades blowing off in the trenches.
WW2 is a sensitive subject in Europe, you hear so many stories growing up so it was a humbling reminder to hear the stories from the veterans and survivors of Normandy.
Every American should know that every year there is a huge parade in Normandy to celebrate the outcome of D-Day. French people will be forever grateful of this huge sacrifice.
I heard some people saying that it is not easy to travel to France when you’re not speaking the language perfectly, might be true in Paris. Go to Normandy, people will treat you like heroes.
