‘Start from the ugly ... and the uglier you make it, you attain, you squeeze out of it, that kind of beauty.’—Leon Golub

Earlier this year, we presented ‘Leon Golub. Et In Arcadia Ego. Conceived by Rashid Johnson’ at our New York, 22nd Street gallery.

This exhibition took the work of late American master @LeonGolub as a starting point to consider artists’ approaches to issues of conflict and uncertainty.

⬅️ Swipe left to view ‘Jean-Michel Basquiat. Engadin,’ now open at our St. Moritz gallery.

Exploring various artistic motifs that combine the natural and cultural landscape of the Engadin with the metropolis of New York, Basquiat’s first solo exhibition is dedicated to the paintings he created in and inspired by his visits to Switzerland.

As highlighted by @itslucydavies in @financialtimes, ‘Basquiat also drew on a very different landscape, that of the Engadin Valley in Switzerland. Its mountains, sports, and traditions became a significant part of his visual language. Even the local bratwurst makes an appearance.’

See ‘Jean-Michel Basquiat. Engadin,’ at our St. Moritz gallery through 29 March 2025. 🔗 Link in bio to plan your visit.

‘The idea of fluidity of form feels like a very painterly concept to me, a bit like creating seemingly solid figures out of wet paint.’—#FloraYukhnovich, born #onthisday.

@flora_yukhnovich’s art boldly explores materiality and process as vehicles for meaning, with cascading and swirling forms evoking rhythm and energy to flow between representation and abstraction.

🌲 Don’t miss the final month to visit ‘Flora Yukhnovich: Into the Woods,’ on view through 19 January 2025 at📍@ordrupgaard in Denmark.

Step inside #DanielTurner’s upstate New York studio in the latest film from @ursulamagazine’s Material series, which examines how artists transform raw materials. Turner, known for drawing inspiration from the atmosphere of sites and the spirit of objects, reflects on how his work attempts ‘to elicit an emotion out of an emotionless material.’

For his debut exhibition at @macshornu in Belgium, ‘Compresseur,’ Turner repurposes metals extracted from the historic Prison de Forest in Brussels.

Watch the full film at the link in bio.

🗻 Join us for ‘Jean-Michel Basquiat. Engadin,’ opening tonight from 6 – 8 pm at our St. Moritz gallery.

This exhibition explores Basquiat’s connections to Switzerland, including his fascination with the Engadin region, which inspired works reflecting the Swiss Alpine landscape and culture.

After his first exhibition with @galeriebrunobischofberger in 1982, Basquiat began incorporating influences from both New York City and Switzerland into his work—motifs like ski lifts, fir trees and mountains. His visits to Switzerland, particularly to Zurich and St. Moritz, allowed him to experience the contrast between the bustling energy of New York and the quiet, overwhelming beauty of the Engadin’s landscape.

Plan your visit at the link in bio.

Join us in wishing a happy birthday to @mikarottenberg 💚

Rottenberg is devoted to a rigorous practice that combines film, architectural installation and sculpture to explore labor and value in today’s hyper-capitalist world.

Her latest works transform over a ton of discarded plastic, collected with the Inner City Green Team in Harlem, into modular systems woven with invasive bittersweet vines. Playfully dubbed ‘eco rococo,’ these works give new life to toxic and invasive materials.

Learn more about the artist’s practice at the link in bio.
