One of our certified highlights this year was Frequencies, conceived as an archive it brings together the experiences of the global participatory project initiated by Oscar Murillo. Unified into a book project manifesting its 10 year archive.

Frequencies addresses the notion of community through the lens of its making. For over a decade, it has involved members of Murillo’s family, studio team and collaborators, visiting 37 countries, over 400 schools around the globe, fixing over 50,000 raw canvas onto classroom desks, and inviting the students to freely mark, write and draw on them for a period of approximately six months.

Strings of ideas stem from a central concept, each performs its role to build the singular form: materiality, image, typography, structure and symbol. Exemplified by the cover, the diagram, extracted and optimised from our first presentation slide (in its original form designated to articulate the pace and structure of the book). In this context it symbolises the ‘frequencies’ of multiple participants, across the globe, in a central orchestration, in relation to the overall project.

It was a real pleasure to have the chance to invite our good friend Christopher Lawson to collaborate with us alongside Maite de Orbe, Marta Barina, Georgia Guirgui, Julia Caicedo Hurtado, Anna Pigot at Studio Oscar Murillo with editor Alessandro Rabottini, and associate Editor Bianca Stoppani.

Thanks to Oscar for the confidence and trust in giving us space to develop a form for this beautiful artwork.

The title of our latest publication refers to Quantum pyscisist Karen Barad who states, ‘The very nature of materiality is an entanglement. Matter itself is always already open to, or rather entangled with, the “Other.” The intra-actively emergent “parts” of phenomena are co-constituted. Not only subjects but also objects are permeated through and through with their entangled kin.’

EU launch @offprint_projects Paris from this evening to Sunday - find us there 🔗

Published @in_other_words_imprint
Commissioned by @goldwin_0

From 2021 to 2024, OK-RM assembled a group of artists, designers, architects, researchers, musicians, and dancers to create new propositions for collective working and making - among them; Daniel Shea @danielpshea, Evilgiane @evilgiane , Mansur Brown @mansurbrown, Darcy Wallace @darcyjwallace Karl Nawrot, Lila Matsumoto, Daisuke Hasegawa @dh_org, Takeshi Hyatsu @takeshi_hayatsu and FATHER @father_info

‘The very nature of materiality(...)’ is a report from an archive of research and process work, presented alongside outcomes in all forms of media that have been edited into this arrangement. The book also features an exploration of alternative forms of design writing which seek to investigate the inner realm of the pursuit of meaning through the project. There are five stages of exploratory research—Enquiries— in which the collaborators pursued a dynamic synthesis of creativity, practice, and communication through the creation of films, performances, publications, poetry, images, sculptures, and musical compositions. Exploring alternative methods of publication and design, it is guided by the principle of ‘orchestration’: the act of creating a single project from the choreography of multiple parts.

The book’s materiality embodies the Enquiries’ working methods of transparency, hybrid combinations, lightness, curiosity, and participation. Printed in silver and constructed as a single, circular object, the reader is invited to engage with the book as an open-ended, non-linear experience, and to become a participant in its spirit of enquiry.

One shot to summarise the complexity, depth and sincerity of the ‘Enquiries’ is not easy… This platform has limitations, the feeling we had experiencing these playing simultaneously in downtown Tokyo surrounded by friends, colleagues and collaborators cannot be transferred. We remain tremendously grateful for the experience of this journey and to all our collaborators - on last count we are very proud to have brought over 150 people to contribute to the making of these Enquiries, including poets, architects, choreographers, dancers, photographers, musicians, artists, these include @darcyjwallace @danielpshea @takeshi_hayatsu @mansurbrown @father_info @dh_org @thevernonspring @evilgiane #lilamatsumoto #karlnawrot

Thank you for the trust and support to conduct this marvelous experiment @goldwin_0 @goldwin_official

3 years, 5 Enquiries many hands, minds and bodies, new friends, much learnt, meaning pursued - tonight we open the retrospective exhibition in Tokyo. A rare chance to reflect and celebrate, beyond grateful. ⭕️🔗

“As with all journeys, ours began with a yearning towards a new horizon of possibilities. We sought to test out new modes and practices of collaborative work, to create forms that would be enriching to us and to our communities and participants, and which would set off a generative cycle of extended learning”

Previewing our first @extraless ‘Report’ - online and offline now circulating 🌍

Reimagining the corporation for a new generation means accepting and embracing the idea that profit can no longer be the sole motivator for business. By adopting the logic of ‘Futurethought’, culture, community, and ecology must be recognised as integral, albeit often silent, partners that are crucial stakeholders in a company’s future success. To explore and embody this shift, EXTRALESS and OK-RM have merged minds in an ongoing collaboration. This partnership delves into the harmonies, contrasts, and potential of what it means to pursue a truly collective project. The first major output, Report 01, is a performance piece structured in three acts, each composed of three movements.

These movements draw inspiration from the EXTRALESS manifesto, focusing on three key themes: “Noticeably Normal,” “Shared Humanity,” and “Autonomy of the Self”. Performed by Edwin Louis, Zahra Van Nguyen, and Yiling Zhao, with movement direction by Lewis Walker, the acts are accompanied by unique scores from EXTRALESS co-founder Tokunbo Fatona. The musical scores, set design, and choreography are based on the geometry of the EXTRALESS
symbol, aiming to create a cohesion that transcends logic.

The performance is captured by an intricate system, oscillating between subjective and objective views, operated by Joseph Reddy, Anna-Lena Krause, and their crew. The garments, also known as Softwear and Lifetools, are designed by Badé and Tokunbo Fatona, with styling by Gerry O’Kane, and hair and makeup by Takuya Uchiyama. Site programming Tristan Bagot.

Stepping back from the consistent engagement of making work, we set a stage on which the nature of the work can be put into question. Why do we do what we do? How do we do it? What is its purpose? And ultimately, how does it resonate in the world?

An intense questioning that moved from language, to image, to context, to philosophy, to spirituality, and back to craft creates the conditions and primes the discourse. The methodology is rediscussed and redeveloped. The goalposts shift as the object of interest takes shape through conversations. Identifying this stage of the work as ‘research’ helps to establish the aim: gaining knowledge.

The work on show is now temporarily framed by six categories, offering a fertile context for the articulation and manifestation of our research.

1. Frame & Content
2. Conceptual Framework
3. Procedural Economy
4. Historical Plug-in
5. Object & Representation
6. Orchestration

Grateful for the late night reasonings @zoppi.michela 🕯️
